sent a big box full of parts to winkler manitoba, and as soon as my conn rod is in ill be shipping the crank out too :D
it will be a bit, but ill definatly let you know how it turns out
the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.

any im spoiled now, never be able to go without a 500, so if i upgrade in the future, ill buy another 500af, and swap the motor and all the goodies, and sell the new motro with the beat up chassis, and that way i dont lose any of the $$$ spent on motor work, or steering damper, or.....
might as well get set up while i can

I cracked a honda rod. Adam had pics. It cracked on the big end bearing surface. Under 200 hours on it I'm guessing. Doing MX only. That crank vibed bad. STR crank is the only reason I'm still on a CR5.

This was on a 2000 motor in a Gen 2 SH chassis.

Was the crack from vibration or bearing failure? Was the rod OEM or aftermarket?

OEM

Not sure but I'd guess vibration. Bearing looked OK.

Do you remember Roosty?

one broke rod means nothing. 1000 broke rods shows a pattern of trouble. like the wiseco/cast debate. impossible to count how many broke cast slugs are now beer cans, number of broke wisecos could be counted on 1 hand. any part can break at any time for a number of reasons. probly rode the bike for 6 months with bearings wobbling for all we know. could of been a shit rod from the factory. what does aftermarket have to do with anything in this situation ? heard hotrods had bad holes and broke...... never seen a pic of one yet :? . granted there aint 500 members here running hotrods but still i dont buy into the bad hole bullshit. heard wiseco was all over the board with sizes. funny i measured 2 wisecos and both were near identical size on all areas measured. go figure

here are some pics of a big end rod failure.
I bought this bottom end like this.

I had never seen one like it before, I would imagine the rod brg was so worn out the rod journal ovaled and broke?

or else it sucked in water and hydrolocked, cracking the rod, and it came apart the next time it saw revs....

all speculation ....

It did not crack the cases.
I was told the cylinder skirt / sleeve broke off from the rod impact.
