wiseco's are fine given the jug/piston being set up right. If I was gonna run mine hard I'd run a wiseco. I'm pretty happy with my vertex. I didn't want to rain on your parade but.... If the crank work is allready done, changing pistons will just change the rpm where the motor is in the sweet spot. ...

I got a stock honda rod that I pulled to do my STR crank. I replaced it with a new pro-x rod, NOT a Hot Rod junker. Anyway the honda rod was in good shape and I could have run it. Probagbly 2 seasons of MX on it. Motor never sucked dirt. No play up down, about .032 between the rod and thrust washers...

You might wanna rethink the pro-x piston. Do a search on them, Roostius has posted pics of how they DON'T seal off the ports properly because of the machining that was done around the wrist pin. If you are gonna get STR to do the crank, you might as well get it set up for a worthy piston. I'm pretty...

I have a gen 2 service honda. Factory Connection does my work. I just redid my stuff. I can hit anything I want doing MX which is what I'm set up for and be quite happy. I rode a bike a couple weeks ago with a $10000 set of suspension on it, 08 CRF 450 at southwick. It was set up for the same weight...

Since I've gotten a bit outta shape and a few years older I'm using the torque a lot more than I used to. The my motor is set up with a FMF pipe I don't need to be in the meat to keep myself entertained about 1/2 the time. I gotta find a good stock pipe and reweld the bracket for a gen 2. I like the...

turns out the majority of the noise is the chain not the kicker. I ziptied a piece of an inner tube to it where it's contacting the frame and went up and down the driveway (3/4 of a mile, nice for testing stuff). At a certain fairly low rpm it shakes the chain back and forth. I assume this is a comm...

yup, not sure about the re-spline trick. Why couldn't you do it on the outside where the kicker goes on? Is the inside got more splines, therefore more adjustment? I'm gonna give the grease a go plus maybe some self adhesive foam or something less conspicuous on the frame.

After every wash I WD-40ed it. R U saying greese the new one or old one? It's rattling against the frame. SH machined it so it would just clear the frame on the gen 2.

I guess I could put some bubble gum on the frame so it would dampen the rattling.

rattling kicker

I've worn out my first kicker. It has become loose at the pivot. Is there any point in trying to rebuild it or just buy a new one? SH wants $85 for one. I'd run it but the noise is driving me nuts while riding. I keep thinking some thing is wrong. Does anyone have any tips on how to keep them from w...

Re: case question

only the paint changed I had a 2000 LH main case crack so I bought a junk motor of ebay for the case. The area where the front motor mount is located was not as strongly built as the newer one. I bought a 92. I had to have it welded as it had cracked around the boss a bit. The newer improved one wa...

orings are for riders that want the chain to last, regular chains are for racers that want to win. Both need high tensile strength unless you plan on doing pit stops to adjust your chain. My sidewinder oring lasted for years.

OK I read it again to make sure my head isn't in the sand. I don't get why you could start with the fat pilot from the get go as that the whole thing was just apart. Playing with brass ain't exactly good times for me, I hate dirt near my internals.

"Flaring the rings out"? This would happen regardless of method given good machine work wouldn't it?

Why did the builder recommend richening the pilot after the first warm up not before?

I considered that method with the spacers. I thought something ridgid would do the job better. If the spacer was welded to the plate it would be better I'm guessing.
