some where someone was talking about advancing or maybe retarding the ignition 5*-10* to allow for easy starting....
can someone show pictures of what they are doing exactly?

Loosen the stator plate bolts a tad and turn it in the same direction as the motor rotates (Left IIRC) - which would be advancing. The slots allow for only a little bit of adjustment. Try a little at a time and leave it to your liking.
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...
When the stator cover is off, operate the kicker by hand, paying attention to which way it spins. Loosen the stator plate bolts and turn it a tiny bit in the same direction. Max depends on the ignition you have in the bike. slots are only ~.75" long on each side...so it doesn't move much. Also, you may need to fatten up your pilot (slow speed screw) by 1/2 - 1 turn in as well - found mine was pinging on the low end. maybee this will make sense, if the spark happens before tdc its advance, after is retarded
