Better welds than I see on a lot of Dodges. My Neon included. If they can outlast the 3 year warranty on a Ram they should do "ok" for his application. Looks like a work in progress. I'd say he's learning to weld as he goes. And I'm sure after due time he's gonna be re welding that engine cradle after it cracks. Big deal. Kawasaki couldn't build a KX500 chassis without it falling apart and it doesn't KILL anyone.
There are some excellent welders on this forum, so this is a particularly tough crowd to please when it comes to such. As it should be. But I think sometimes guys should remember this isn't your bike. It's somebody elses. And if it makes them happy...let 'em roll with it. You don't learn how to do something well until you've fucked it up a couple times. Live and learn.

Spike got a real good education , on what not to do, firsthand.

He was told by a few old goats ( Mostly me) that he was going down the wrong path.... He listened to his "cheerleaders" , as that was more fun that taking the medicine.... and he paid the ultimate price for not listening.britincali wrote:No spike was a good kid who sucked at fabbing, his creation ended up killing him
I sleep well at night..... others like Clipity cant, or at least they shouldnt.
They are as responsible as Spike is for what happened.
In a thread, I forget which one, Jay Lewis said this....

It may sting a little at first, but it wears off over time.
Dead is forever.
It was a 50cc Derbi Moped. U/K rules state kids cant ride anything bigger.~Trever wrote:wtf got anymore details?britincali wrote:No spike was a good kid who sucked at fabbing, his creation ended up killing him
Spike shoved a CR500 motor into the Derbi chassis, figuring the dumb Bobbies would never catch on.
The kid did a surprizingly good job. Built it on the side of his house ( really an alley), with basically a hammer and crescent wrench.
Went through the motor too.
He could have turned into quite a fabricator, had he lived.
Pretty tragic story.
