I had a crash 3 months ago and was at the doctor for a check-up of the old knee yesterday. Here is the xray of my right knee. Doctor reckons 6 to 9 more months before its healed proper. My fore-arms are getting bigger than Popeye's from walking with the crutches
Its rather entertaining that everyone who approaches me automatically knows that I fell with my bike. And then there is the standard reaction of "What?!? you fell with a CR 500?? Serves you right for trying to ride that bike"
I crashed on august 27th. Biggest mistake of my life. Now my foot is FUCKED! That Knee looks like my ankle but i have 15 screws and 2 long plates and ya it's good to know some one else is in the exact same boat as me...damn cr500's..., I'll get a real good shot of my Xray in a couple days, it looks very similar.
I wonder how many orthopedic Drs. are hoons? With the knowledge we gain from being in the emergency room and what not, why arn't any of us doctors? I destroyed my back in 1991. And both knees 4 times.

the first doctor that looked at my ankle told me ''you'll never be able to roof again, and i wouldn't think about riding those stupid bikes again...'' and i was like ''stupid bikes??'' i spent 5 months building that stupid bike you fucking piece of shit! i had to stick up for my 500 with everyone i talked to...''wow you shouldn't have built such a powerful bike should you have?" i just keep saying ''listen dick, it's not the bikes fault i decided to do something extremely dangerous.'' people are freekin dicks....
Thats the same shit I hear all the time from my doc's. It's like you know what, I'm not going to spend the rest of my life in a fuking buble worrying about getting hurt. We ride bikes, sometimes we get messed up, most of the time we don't we are all men of action! Most Dr's don't get it.
as i sit here with a broken foot I would love nothing more then to rip it the F up on my 5biller...i would go right now in the snow if i could...people think because i bailed badly this time i might as well sell my bike...bullshit!
Ask those same people, if I get in a wreck in my car on the way to work, and get fuked up, should I sell my car and quit working? Then see what they say!

x2
People just don't understand what it feels like to ride. My missus also begged me to sell the beast when i was in the wheel chair (I also tore the ligaments on my other knee) Now that i am mobile again she seem to have made peace with the 500 again.
Doctors are dicks... "I pay you to fix me not counsel me, so shut-up and bring on the morphine!"
Good luck with your recovery Balaclava. It sucks I know!
you too man...people shouldn't be able to F their shit up like we did
I have learnt alot so far about what i'm able to handle mentally and physically, because of this whole experience. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital so messed up on morphine and in so much pain, like pain i never even knew was possible and i laughed, cried and tripped out for a long time over it. My foot looked so bad i just couldn't believe i did that to myself and knowing it'll never be the same got to me big time. It's been crazy but i'll never regret the fact that i ride big bikes, sure i regret the way i hit the jump everyday and i've been so bitter about it and the whole thing keeps me up at night alot but there's nothing you can do about it, except man up, be as strong as you can and move on with your life. I knew eventually one day i was gonna get hurt, it's just how i ride, i had escaped unhurt from so many other crashes this year especially i thought i was invincible. Whatever man, I just can't stand these freekin crutches anymore!!
Bummer to get hurt riding but that's how it goes. I have been hurt way more riding on the street than the dirt, because it's always someone elses fault on the pavement. On dirt you can't blame anyone but yourself, so adjust your riding style to allow for safer get offs. Or expect pain and recovery time, it's just the nature of the beast. I can't think of to many other sports that give the thrill and excitement of blasting a cr500, no nerdy doctor or other yuppy doodle will ever understand.
I feel your pain!!!
April 1 of 07 I broke my wrist. I went to the hospital they took x-rays gave me a shot of morphine and kicked me out the door because I don't have insurance. I spent the next three weeks going from hospital to hospital doctors office to doctors office with everyone kicking me out their door because I don't have insurance. Now mind you my wrist is broke in 7 places the only thing holding my hand on is skin, ligaments and tendons..no bone. I did some research and found a orthopedic surgeon that is rated one of the best in the country who specializes in sports injuries and he races motorcross. He has fixed people such as Rodney Smith and countless others. Has been known to go to races to keep appointments with his injured pro athletes. His name is Dr. Jondy Cohen Stanislaus Ortho & Sports Medicine 609 East Orangeburg Suite 201 Modesto, CA (209-572-3224). He worked with me as far as $$$$ and scheduled my surgery immediately to get me back on my bike. My wrist will never be the same but Dr. Cohen said I have more mobility than he thought I would ever get and that he fixed me to ride a motorcycle not take change from somebody. LIVIN THE DREAM!!! ya man that's the super bunk part of your country, (no offence). Canada's healthcare is bogus but nobody kicked me out of nowhere, sure i had to wait in the hospital for 5 days before my first surgery and my doctors were dicks but i still was getting morphine and the proper treatment that was needed. I couldn't imagine what my leg surgery and hospital time would have cost me if we didn't have public healthcare. Sorry to hear about your wrist situation, that sounds brutal!
Yikes, we sure have f@$ked ourselves up! I also didn't have health insurance and had to go to a public hospital, know imagine Africa and your average public hospital in Africa. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks. The evening after my surgery I asked for some pain medication and the nurse gave me two headaches tablets.
Anyway its getting better, a private hospital would have charged me roughly $20,000.00 for the surgery and hospital stay!
i broke both my ankles... not on my 500 but on my 426.. the sun was just right and i went sailing off a 15-20' drop landed flat and was wearing hiking boots!!!! recipie for disaster. rode out of there then later passed out from shock was pretty cool.. my buddy goes you stood up turned pale white and fell down and started rollin towards the fire pit LOL.. i remember standing up and then some cold ass water gettin dumped on me goin WTF just happend.
Memorial Day Weekend 1990 I had just gotten my 85' and we were at the dunes in Oklahoma. I had taken off with another guy to go on a cruise of the campsites and ended up going out on the dunes without a helmet. I ended up hitting the top of a razor pinned in 4th and launched myself into the face of the next dune. My nose slammed into the throttle housing, splitting it lengthwise. This part of Oklahoma is fairly rural, so after 2 stops of the ambulance at different hospitals that will not treat me, I get to one that will and have the surgery. 25 stitches in the nose and a night in the hospital and a lengthy ambulance ride cost me around 5 grand. No insurance here either.
18 years later, the scar has faded, but it is enough to remind me to always put on the bucket.

awesome stories...this should be a stickied thread for people to come vent about how pissed off their injuries are making them!! this is a hoon therapy thread!
and 20,000$$???? i would rather die then pay the hospital that much money. it's bad enough i'll never be able to work properly again and am basically already broke!, i would trip!!!!

5 grand! unreal bro! how much do you guys have to pay for good private insurance anyways?
I'm not sure about anywhere else, but here private insurance for a familly of 4, for half way decent insurance, will run almost $1000 per month! Friggin joke.

OMFG! i drive a brand new truck for half of that a month!
that's what it will be for me right away anyways, i was putting little bits of weight on it today and i'm pretty sure it's gonna get solid. it's ugly but hopefully it'll be solid.
Don't get overzealous. When I fuked up my ACL, I had the surgery, and a few weeks later I was like this feels pretty good and went to put weight on it and wound up blowing out stitches and everything else! Fukin bites man. I kept asking my ortho why can't they just replace my fukin bones with stainless rod! Then the worst that would happen is it would just bend!
My contribution to the thread. Yes, that's my ass!
It happened during a race at PaxTrax in Bunnell, Florida in '97 or so. I would find out later that my clutch basket was badly grooved and didn't allow the clutch to engage right away.
I went over the first part of a camel back jump and while gassing it for the second, NOTHING and then the bike and I went flying. My back/ass found a rock on the backside of the jump.
