Witnesses said the driver, Scott Kalitta, was speeding at an estimated 300 mph during the National Hot Rod Association Super Nationals when the engine of his Toyota Solara exploded in a ball of flames.
"The driver was killed after he lost control of his vehicle," said Sgt. Julian Castellanos, a spokesman for the State Police.

A friend was at E-town.... Said it was pretty horrorific.... Scott was ejected...among other things.
Scott was a straight up guy ....spoke his mind. pretty rare in this "Corporate Spoke-Hole" environment.
He was one on the good ones, and will be sorely missed....

They showed the crash on Sports Center... pretty rare for a fatal.
Crash was brutal.
I was told he was unconciuous , but to me he looked to be hard on the brakes. The car lost of speed in the last few hundred feet or so, was bouncing too..... both consistant with braking.
I dont know if I'm supposed to say "God's Speed"..or "Hell Bell's" for Scott.
I'm just going to say " Hoon On" , where ever you are.
