Compared to the radiator mounting tabs, the "Y" looks low.

Have you mocked it up yet??

Yours might be a little too high. You need a little "wiggle room" for when you lay it down.....

got my pipe the other day and made my bottom motor mounts. the frame is at the welders now. will get pics up when i get it back. just a quick question about the air box boot. on the gen 4, some people are using the cr500. some the 00" and the 02" cr250 boot. because im using the older motor with the intake being longer(8mm) is this going to mess things up for me?

Tocoma that all depends were your motor is clocked in the frame, i would wait till you have the motor in the frame along with the airbox and then measure the distance from the front of the box to the intake manifold.

on my gen 4 i used the 98 cr 250 boot with a 1/16" spacer,
length of boot is 7 1/4 " on the long side. a 2001 cr 250 boot is 6 7/8ths and the 500 boot is even shorter !

I tried looking ahead on some parts for my build and still ended up with parts that didn't fit, i have a few airboots now

also i didn't pick up on the fact that a 97-99 cr250 cdi box won't fit behind the front # plate (box is to wide to fit inbetween the forks when their turned) and putting it any where else is a pain.
i think the stock cr500 box has just enough wiring to reach behind there(stretched) and the 2000 cr 250 cdi wiring fits in there like stock with the wiring fitting loosely.

last night i was staring at my frame thinking how i wanted to build my head stay. at the same time i was also thinking about the couple of bikes that have broke in half because of faulty welding of the "Y". i have to tell you that this has been bothering me for awhile, thinking that my bike could break in half! so hears my idea.....why not just turn the head around and make a bracket come off the head and the bolt it to me main down tube above the "Y"? this way if the welds ever broke, your motor would still hold everything together. the bracket would have to be offset, but i think its doable. i have a milling machine, and am thinking of trying this. i just wanted to put it out there and get some feedback from my fellow hoons.Image[/img]

Different for sure. IDK if it'll work. You may have tank issues. I'd just fab up the usual stays and mount in the traditional fashion. Oh and the Y's that broke were solid, not hollow - your Y should be fine! Just my $.02...

Yea, but now your dealing with kooky coolant hoses, sparkplug zapping your balls.... all kinds of nonscense.

If your really afraid of your frame breaking, run a kevlar strap bewteen the steering stem, and engine mounts.

thanx for ur input guys. i really liked bobs comment about the spark plug zapping my balls!! LOL..... i have decieded to put my trust in my welders skills and build my head stay the normal way. i still like the idea. but it wouldnt be as clean of an install. if the mount on the head were to point straight forward, it would be a diffrent story.
