Happy to be here with CR500 riders. I grew up in San Diego, bought my first bike from Don Vesco in El Cajon. Graduated up to Huskys and a 440 Maico. Rode quite a bid as a young buck in Baja before the new road and also before all the tourists decended upon it. Most of the riding was on dunes near Rosarito Beach and the rocky wash out areas south of San Felipe. Have come back to my love of big two stroke singles later in life. Built a 2006 Honda 450 with a 2001 CR500R engine. I found this site thru Glen Howell of GSS race porting and love it. I will post some photos of my bike when I can.
I am currently in El Paso (W. Texas) for the week visiting family. Had I realized I was only 30 miles from White Sands, I woulda brought my bikes! Oh well....next time.
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...
He was always a very friendly fellow to a snot nose kid who loved motorcycles. I had no idea he was a racer and sponsered so many racers until many years later. I have very fond memories of the old yamaha 125 two stroker I bought with my dad from him. I am on the right site if someone remembers him from the past....
