danny boy, if you run across a 440 you should pick it up. the magazines say they screem like a 250 but with 25 extra HP (89mm bore x 70mm stroke
). i swore i wouldnt buy another ktm, but if i can find a 440 for cheap i just might snag it.

some of the older ktm's, like maicos used mahle pistons. none better.
I've reused mahle's over and over and over and over .

i didnt have to destroy the piston but heres what i had to do: the wrist pin started to waller out in the wrist pin bore of the piston and created a "lip" between the wristpin and circlips, in order for the pin to slide out i had to grind the lip down. with a nikisil cylinder im sure its possible to re-plate the cylinder back to spec and re-use the piston if everything looks fine, unfortunatly mine is beyond help. its no big deal, ill get a new piston.

Yea.. .well.... the pistons in my DuraMax survive under 100% throttle all the time under my size 13 @33psi boost.. and their cast.

When I was a kid it was hard to find any but now with computers, I can find em all day long. The hard ones to find are riding boots. Right now I use a set of old Hi-Points black and chrome.

book calls for .0021" - .0025" piston clearance. firing it up and hammer down probly aint going to work for the break-in procedure on this one
