( Smashed, Stiff ) ... So heres some info about swapping it out...
This may seem pretty basic, but you never know who is reading these things.....
A while ago I noticed my coil wire had become very stiff. This is the first sign that the insulation is starting to break down.
8 years sitting on top of a hot jug will do that.
A quick call to all the local shops revealed NOBODY sells this item anymore. They all told me I had to buy the coil complete. I went to Honda, they told be the same thing.. ".....the wire alone is not serviceable, and the whole assembly is $160."
At 40+, you can smell B.S. quite easily.
A quick search and I found what I was looking for...NGK part # 8048. I ordered it from Cycle Gear.. They told me that in the history of all the West Coast stores, nobody had ever ordered one.....

Hummmmmmmmmmmm.
$12 later, I was back in action. Simply unscrew the wire from the coil and discard. Cut the new wire to length. Cut the outer jacket slightly shorter than the wire and slip it back on. Pull the jacket back to expose the wire and screw it back onto the threaded coil stud, then let the jacket expand over the full length of the wire and let it ride up and over the coil tower. A little di-electric grease wont hurt either.
Typing it takes longer than to do it. The plug boot is quite nice, much better than stock.
The only thing I dont like is its BRIGHT RED in color.
Hope this simple tip helps someone .....
