Cylinder head help

Post by kevin_s »

Ok,I'm building an 86 engine, the cylinder head i have is off an 98.
Can I use the 98 head on the 86 engine if I use the later thin head gasket,or will i still be down on compression?

It will have the same compression as the head you use. 98 on 98 gasket will give the compression of the 98.
Cylinder port timing and the lack of scallops in the exhaust will give a pinch more. Nothing to worry about

I have not cc any 500 heads but the look pretty close when they have their respective head gaskets.

86-thick head gasket
98-thin " "

anybody have any cc # handy for the two heads?

Adam had pics up somewhere that showed the smaller dome on the 85/86 head.
