Question for you guys with 500af's on the street, what sprocket sizes are you using.
Have you looked at the sticky thread: Gearing Calculator ?

These bikes just seem to laugh at gearing changes taking them effortlessly, big variations are tolerated so its easy to get just want you want except for a wider ratio box, on my 97 steely I am running 15/42, with stock 18" rear wheel, started at 14/49 then went 15/49 then 14/42 before 15/42, about to go to 15/40, the bike has been running in quietly and pulls the gearing effortless, it is used on grass and gravel track, is road registered and does gravel roads with only small amounts of sealed road, I have a set of 17" wheels with radials that will go on sometime with a 37 & 41 rear choice, less rolling diameter so the 15/37 should be similar to 15/41 on the stock wheel, the tryes are an 18" Pirelli MT70 130/80 at 67.5cm roll diameter and the 17" is a Shinko 150/60 radial at 61.0 cm so quite a difference there. It going to depend on what sort of street's your doing.

If you're running 17's, start around 14/40,39 and go from there. If i'm running long distance on more open highway, I go to a 15t, but in town 14/40 is pretty good all around.
If if doesn't kill you, it hurts like hell.
