Gen 3 125 / 250 differences?

I have some conversion parts to do a gen 3 CR125(billet head stays/ wye, and some cradles), The guy I bought them from did not know if they would work with the 250.

What differences can I expect?

Is the frame where the head stay mounts on the 125 / 250 in the same place.

Is the down tube where the wye is the same position for the 125 as the 250?

The guy I got the parts from, said he wished he would have done a 250 because the pipe was hard to fit. Are there any differences between the 125 / 250 that make the 250 easier?

Anything else I should know before I chose 125 or 250, or should I shop for both and make my decision on price, value and availability of the donor bike?

i'd missed this thread somehow
the 125 is a pain in the ass!
the y is so far back it would hit the cyl above the exhasut beak. The rads need to be tipped foreward, new frame rails and a new Y secion will do it.
We just finished the fab work for one that my brother will ride, i got the frame bare from Robertg on the forums. I've got a gen3 250 frame i ride, so simple i dont know if i'd even go to a different chassis for my next bike. we've done a few gen4 bikes and theyre time burners too. Ask stoffers, the gen3 250 is a weekend project. :wink:

the tire will hit the pipe on a 125 chassis, the rake is different and its a bit shorter in length

We have done a gen 4 250f and a gen 3 125. The 125 was a bit of work but is an awesome bike to ride. It turns sooo good. The 250f is almost as good and was quite a bit easier except for the tank. I went the short plug route with minimal tank work on the 250f

Gen 3 CR125 wheelbase 1471mm, rake 25.75 degrees, trail 100mm
Gen 3 CR250 wheelbase 1481mm, rake 26.49 degrees, trail 107.3mm
2005 CRF450 wheelbase 1486mm, rake 26.91 degrees, trail 108mm
2006 CRF250 wheelbase 1478.mm, rake 27.5 degrees, trail 123mm

mines an 03 125. I've ridden my friend Tom's SH on the 250f chassis and Dredge's bike on an 02 CR250 chassis and I think mine handles a lot better for my east coast terrain. out in cali maybe not, not sure.

We really like our 125 base for MX. We are now duplicating the crf 250 chassis to make a direct comparison( tires, ignition, gearing, small tank, jetting, if possible and pipe )
