That's one big piston flying around in there. They all vibe...all the time. I had STR balance my crank. It shakes at idle....doesn't feel bad on the bike. The important factor is killing the vibes at ride RPMs. I can see cars in the distance through my mirrors, so I think mine is tame compared to wh...

heat shrink hose clamps

A friend of mine went on a shopping spree and brought me some cool hose clamps. It was some assortment for automotive heater hoses that he picked up. They crimp down when heat-gunned. I was skeptical, but they work bad ass..... and make the splices less ugly. http://inlinethumb60.webshots.com/10043/...

This place inspired me to build my own. So I know the initial excitement.

Post up the progress.
It'll be a learning experience...no doubt.

Good luck man.

Cool vid editing....I like the sound of the jams w/the moto noises. Interesting setup. I always ditched the thumb controls in favor of twist grips. I felt like I couldn't hold on as tight. Started riding when I was 12, never could get used to the t.lever in my manly years. Even modded the jet ski in...

The 250 has digital ignition??? My 125 stator looks exactly like yours. The engine core I purchased didn't come w/a CDI box. I wired in the (2001) 125's CDI into the 500's harness...had the same color scheme as in your picture. I spliced the like-colored wires together...had spark...it fired up and ...

Man...what a pile.
He needs to stay away from Hondas.

That little white bike has good tank-slapper potential. That rake angle looks a bit tight.

I scrounged up a flywheel from a 250R 3-wheeler, just to see how it compared.
The diameter is way too big. It wouldn't even come close to fitting inside the side case.

That's some cool old history. Works bikes have always been the shit. Too bad the factories don't produce them anymore. Todays factory's techno could produce some exotic stuff, look at the carbon fibre framed Ducati Moto GP racers Imagine that effort dumped into an MX machine....but it'd take a new v...

That's a tough one to answer. If you plan to ride it and have some fun, then fix what needs fixing. Clean it up as much as possible/remove the dents in the pipe and keep an as-is appearance. If it's not going to be ridden, then tear it down and do a nut/bolt restoration. Personally, it'd be a waste ...

The 1980 CR250 was a pinger. I'll never forget the time I opened the MX Action (or was it Dirt Bike) magazine and the new 1981 Hondas were splayed out in a full page ad. Yeah, the 125/250s were pumpers....later on I had the priveledge of witnessing the meyhem of a 450. When I moved away, my best fri...

1980 RC400 ?????????????

I've seen the cool 1970/early 80s CR250 bikes w/the 450/480 engines stuffed in 'em. I have a question. How different were the MT series Hondas from the CR? I know the MTs were street legal and had oil injection, but as far as frame and tank specs.....where there any big differences? I might have stu...

I like old air cooled bike. The sound of the fins. Some sound really bad...like the engine is falling apart internally, but I love the sound also. Maybe Honda produces the best metalic ring ever. I had 2nd thoughts about mixing 2 different brands. After riding the bike, I knew it was a good choice. I went w/the Gnarly pipe and the TC2. Noise level seems to be mellow (on the loud side of street use) when compared to other track bikes. It's quieter then what my 480 makes w/its repacked silence...

Looks like we've been out-done again.

I searched a parts fische, and I can see differences between years. So I realize that there are differences.

I guess my main question is.....is the side case machined different between years, to accept the different stators?

Did you go through service Honda for the decompression, and after you welded in the head did you have to have it resurfaced again so the head gasket didn't leak?. I was parts searching for the Harley, and found a decomp valve that looked promising. It's made from stainless and they claimed that it ...
