The good thing about this bike is I was able to do all the work myself and with the help of members on various forums and E-Bay I was able to gather up the parts I needed to get her back in shape. Here are a few more pictures of the build : This is the initial teardown http://i917.photobucket.com/al...

84 CR500 Rebuild

Well things have been nothing less than chaotic this past few months but even through the hectic schedule I managed to get a little work done on my 84 CR500. I bought is off Craigs last year and I was under the impression it was just a cosmetic mess. The guy actually brought it down from Maryland on...

I just bought a pint of the Flash Red paint at my local automotive paint place. Here is the website ajtucker.com/ and here is the number 1-800-280-5972 I used PPG and they pulled up the mix ratio for the Honda Flash Red right in the computer and mixed it up. You will need the paint, hardener and red...

Ok, finally got home and pulled out the manual and you are correct. The basket would turn a lot slower but anyway I just hope I never need to remove those allen bolts.

I understand where you are coming from with the loctite but are you sure the basket is turning slow? I mean its running right off the crankshaft so whatever rpm the crank is turning so it the basket right? Well even being a machinist I sure as hell HOPE I never have to remove those screws and that g...

So what are you comparing Blendsall to? and how do you know it wouldn't have stuck running Amsoil Interceptor or Dominator oils? Although the piston didn't stick I can't imagine the cylinder would be in usable condition seeing how the rings are scored right through. So in the midst of that meltdown ...

All I can say is a lot has changed in the last 28 ~ 33 years (going by the dates on those articles) when it comes to synthetics. If Castor is working for you then by all means use it. I will always love the smell of it and ran it 35 years ago in my first mini bike. Our sense of smell is the stronges...

Re: CR500 Engine Build Pictorial Part 3

I recently installed a Hinson clutch basket and they highly recommended "peening over" or "center punching" the portion of the allen bolt that is sticking through the clutch basket so they couldn't back out if one came loose. I noticed on your allen bolts that you didn't do any t...

I have both Boyesen covers on my bike (95CR500) and they were also on there when I got it. I haven't had any problems with them. I just installed a Hinson basket and the clutch cover was glued on with Hondabond and never leaked a drop. Bad side of it is that shit is hell to get off.... until I decid...

I prefer the .0001 or ten thousandths gauges myself just so you can creep up on the number your shooting for a lot easier when honing a cylinder. I have a few of the .0005 half ten thousandths gauges that work fine for something that doesn't need to hold a very tight tolerance. I found some really n...

The 3.6 anvil means it measures in the 3.600" range or from 3.600 ~ 3.699 and you can move through that range with the 3 or 4 little washers they give you that go behind the anvils. What you said about them being exact, I'm not sure if a 3.6 anvil would actually get you down to 3.600 bore size ...

The correct way to set any dial bore gauge is with a micrometer. First set the micrometer to the exact size you want then put the bore gauge in the micrometer and adjust it to zero. I like about a full turn on the bore gauge so it has some pre-load but with this type you sort of get what you get. Th...

Re: Cylinder Talk.....

Notice the one common thread of ALL siezure types is the breakdown of the oil film. This is why so many Hoons insist on running CASTOR oil products. No other oil can match the film stregnth, this is something even the Synthetic companies will admit. If avoiding siezures is all about film stregnth, ...

If I remember correctly it barely cleaned up because the dickweed bored it almost right to size. the ring end-gap doesnt mean much either, many tests have been done showing that end gaps up to even .100" made no difference in compression or crankcase pressure a 4" bore small block chevy. I can agree with you completely in regard to a 4 stroke automotive engine. A good friend of mine ...
