CR480 / '84 CR500 / '85 CR500 Common Parts??

Hi folks, I've been offered an '84 as a restoration project. The rolling chassis looks complete (but rough) and most of the engine parts are there. The LHS crankcase is missing and I've been told that the gearbox may also be shot. I'm aware that the '84 was a 1-year-only model and is the only year o...

SCOTLAND -Shed Clear Out - LOts of EVO Spares

Hello everyone, I'm clearing-out a whole load of '87 / '88 / '89 spares from my shed. I collected these parts with the intention of rebuilding them into complete bikes, but I've not got the time or the workshop facilities to do so, so I'm putting the lot up for sale. There's around £3000 worth if th...

Kickstart Levers - Will A KX lever fit my CR?

I'm having no luck finding an original '87/'88 kickstart lever. :( I'm in the process of rebuilding an '85 engine to put it into an '88 chassis and have 2 '85/'86 kickstart levers. I hate the position of the '85/'86 levers as I've got to position my foot at a funny angle to avoid smacking my boot of...

OK, looks as though I'm going to overhaul the '85 engine and use it. I think I can remenber reading before that the hole in the swingarm bushings require to be machined-out to accept the '88 swingarm spindle??? Is this correct? Roostius, If you use an earlier engine in a later frame with the low pip...

Will an '85 Cylinder and RHS case fit a '90 bottom end?

Hi guys, Bought a complete '88 bike in VGC a month or so ago. Got alot of spares in the sale too (almost enough to build a nother bike), including an '85 engine. The '85 engine is almost complete, but the crank needs overhauled. I bought another bike at the weekend - '88 frame & running-gear wit...

Mongrel '85 / '88 Motor Rebuild

Hi guys, Bought a complete '88 in really good condition and got a big pile of spares too. Think I've got enough spares to build a second practice bike, but I've got a mix of parts from different years. I've got 2 complete bottom ends - an '85 and an '88. The '85 cases are useable, but the crank has ...

SCOTLAND - CR500 Wanted - Swop for CRF450!!!!

WANTED! CR500 for EVOLUTION class racing in the Scottish Twinshock Championship. Bikes made After '91 cannot race in the EVO class in Scotland, so it's gotta be '91 or earlier ('88 / '89 / '90 or '91 preferred!). I 've not got much cash, but I've got a 2002 CRF450 in VGC if you're willing to trade. ...

Gen 1 - 4 handling differences

I'm sure it's been discussed before.
What are the handling differences between the different generations?
Looking to buy a gen-2 AF comversion for MX.
Good choice or no?

Ross

My good lady got me one of these last Christmas. Finally got it out of the box and strapped to the bike. I have to say that I tak...

How much difference does servicing the stock suspension and having it correctly sprung for your weight make? My bike's a'95 steelie and ridden back-to-back with my cousin's '03 CRF450, the CRF's sussies are light years ahead. I've wound up the compression damping gradually to stiffen the front &...

They don't stock the EG at my local supplier.
How long (typically) should a plug last if the motor is tuned (Jetted) correctly?
I've not had to change one yet and I've had the bike for around a year now.

It all depends on the piston & cylinder wear and the required tolerances. For example: You may need a new piston, but the cylinder bore shows very little wear and is still within tolerance, so you wouldn't need a re-bore. The 5hundy has an uncoated steel cylinder liner which is relatively cheap ...
