If you know you have a cracked piston, then tare it down and fix it while it's relitivly cheap. a chunk of piston going through the bottom end can do some serious damage.

If you have a 70 mph breeze going through the rads, that should be plenty of cooling for the coolant, what year is your motor, how is your water pump?

My guess is a combonation of too much heat and not enough oiling.

This is a photo of Fastkart's gokart motor, I suspect he is likely using a larger single rad.
I agree if inlet and return are both on the same rad, then you're not going to be using the other one to it's full potential.
