I have a 97 cr500 engine in my bike and i rebuilt it last year and a new clutch about 3 months ago and im having issues with my right hand going numb so i was thinking of selling the engine :( and installing a 450 engine in my 2001, i need something that does not vibrate as much and i will be able to do 20min motos :D . What do you think i could get for a complete package, motor with all accessories to install, pipe, carb, electrical? thanks guys

I rode a 1985 500 when it first came out so I was expecting severe vibration when I was looking for a bike a few months ago.
My 1992 500 vibrates as much or LESS than my CR250.
It's scary because you don't really realize that you're sitting on a bull just waiting to get out of the gate.
I don't know why, maybe it's balanced. I know it has just about everything I would ever do to it.
My point is, why is your bike vibrating? Would a 450 vibrate any less?
Not trying to talk you out of it if you're set on switching.
Damn, I just noticed it's sold. oh well.............

Im sure balancing would have made a huge difference but at this point i was looking for a little more power and some more torque, Iam excited to be doing something i have not seen done yet and it reminds me of my early days of my first AF build. Im looking at having a (this is what im going to call it) 2001 450AF :D

If you are looking for a little more power and some more torque you are heading in the wrong direction!

A CR500 has more HORSEPOWER and more TORQUE than a CRF450 and all for a lot less money.

I've owned 500's , 250's , yz450f and a ktm505xcf
I am faster on the 4 strokes anywhere but ice, snow, sand and big long hills.
That said everytime I owned a different bike, i wished i had my last 500.

The KTM as great of a bike as it was, still felt like a minibike compared to my built 500's.

looking back keeping the CR500af, and the KTM505 would be the ticket :?
