Hi all.

I have a 2000 CR500 that I need to get a shock for. I managed to break the shock body while attempting to change the top shock bearing. I now know what I did wrong, but I now also need a new shock.

Anyways, I have been searching around trying to figure out what the differences are from year to year when dealing with the rear KYB shocks.

What year shocks are the exact same as my 2000 model KYB shock that the bike had on it?

Thanks!

So if 96-01 were the same KYB shock, were they all valved and sprung the same for all of those years? I am assuming Honda made no changes to the rear suspension geometry within those years? I want to make sure that the shock works correctly with the year 2000 swingarm and linkage that my bike has.

Thanks! I appreciate you input!

I think the linkage setup is the same for 96-01, so shock should work fine.

Thanks for the help. I guess I am now looking for a 96-01 rear KYB CR500 shock.

I was curious if these shocks were the same for the CR250's of similar years as well?

nope. '96 probably, but in '97 the cr250 went a/f with twin chamber showas up front and high/low speed showa 46mm shock on the rear.

OK, thanks for the info. I will stick to the cr500 specific shocks then.
