What year fuel tank will fit on the 85'?

I am sure somewhere this is talked about.....I need a tank and want to make sure I don't buy one that doesn't fit. I need one for an 85' can other years be made to fit?

I think only 85 and 86.

I think you can make '87-'88 fit. the aftermarket ones are '85-'88, but the '85-'86 mount to the bike slightly differently that the '87-'88

So, it should be just different bolts, or hole size. I have bought to much ebay stuff that doesn't fit and I am trying to get the facts before I buy.

what I think it is, is that the '85-'86 tank has the metal mounts molded into the tank. for '87-'88 they were bolted on. I think the mounts were also shaped slightly differently, but I would imagine you could still make one fit.

#8 is '87-'88, #7 is '85-'86
