Love Letter from Rob129

Hi everyone,
I made it to The Suck. We have been here for a few days. It looks a lot like Edwards did but stinks, is hotter and very dusty. The sun (big red) here is quite unforgiving. I would not want to live here.

I will do my best to keep in touch. We are very very busy here. Hopefully, that will make the time go by faster. I cant wait to get into a routine and start flying auto-pilot. The jet lag and "differences" here are whupping me so far. I should have no problems dropping back down to 180 pounds here. Planning to work-sleep-gym during my tenure here. Not much time for anything else, time or days off will be quite rare.

My thoughts always,
Rob

Drop him a note from time to time.... Its gotta be hard being over there.

I've emailed him 3 times....

He is probably in the Base Medical Center, recovering from a serious case of "Camel Rash"....

Nice Pratt & Whitney.

Tell him we got 20 more new orders and my job is secure for another year and a half. Three to NATO and two to Qatar.

"Boeing delivered the U.S. Air Force’s 174th C-17 during ceremonies Tuesday at the Long Beach, Calif., assembly facility. Brig. Gen. Brian P. Meenan flew the aircraft to its new home at Dover Air Force Base, Del. It is the ninth of 13 C-17s scheduled to be delivered to Dover AFB. With recent legislation including funding for 15 additional C-17s, Boeing will be on contract to design, build and deliver 205 of the aircraft to the Air Force through August 2010."

Don't know how true it is, I heard this one is going straight to Bagdad to pick up wounded and taking them to Germany.

Ron129 wrote:Hi Guys!!!!
I am doing fine, very very busy. Its like groundhog day. I wake up every
morning and it's the same thing. We work our butts off. The Ops Tempo is
high and if we are lucky we get one day off a week. The shifts are 12-13
hours a day.

The heat here is worse than Edwards. It reached 132 the other day. That
sucks the water right out of you. The dust storms suck!!! Its like thick
fog...cant see a damn thing. Have to wear a scarf around my mouth and
nose to keep from breathing that crap.

I am hitting the gym a lot. That's my release. I am running 8 miles then
ab work and polish it off with some weights. I have lost 21 pounds.
Going to start doing a few races when I get back. I want to be in top
shape first.

Attached a pic...enjoy! Its me doing an inlet inspection

Flag Cert.... Cool!

A note from Rob......

Hey guys,
I did not get as many missions on your flags as I would have liked. Time is very short. I stop working on the 4th and leave on the 5th (possibly). That and we have been pounded with engine work.

So far they have been to:
Bagram--Afghanistan
Balad--Iraq (one of the nasty ones…..Mortar-rita ville)

Tomorrow I am having the other shift put them on a bird for their final mission before I leave. It will go to Baghdad to Amman Jordan, then back to Baghdad and then come back here. I will try my best to get certs for the last mission for all flags. It will be tricky because its all on the other shift. But I will work it if I can catch the flight crew before they leave for crew rest.

These are no longer just an "ordinary" flag. They have been to the suck and in combat…..respect them! My flag will be be put in a case made out of Purple Heart wood and only flown outside my house on special occasions. Then will make the trek with me to New Zealand in Oct from there we forward deploy to Antarctica. If you guys want your flags to go with me there let me know and I'll pack them up. The need to be vaccuum packed tho….keeps them nice and clean.

I will try to mail the flags back sometime this week, It will be kinda of crazy. We have to move to tent city, outprocess, work, pack and get the hell out of here in less than a week….

Laters,
Rob
