have to buy some new gear, suggestions?
I'm going to replace a lot of it, I think I can fix my helmet and chest protector and goggles, but I will for sure need some new gloves and want to change my knee pads.
I want some knee pads that strap higher up and protect some parts of my quads. The ones I have only strap down low and when I need them, they slide down into my boot
I haven't bought gloves in like 6 years (hoofarted bought me those anyway) so I don't really know anything about buying gloves.

Re: have to buy some new gear, suggestions?
My knee pads are Six Six One (as is much of my gear). The most important thing is they strap above AND below the knee. Mine have shin guards too which tuck into the tops of my boots. MX Gloves really do very little at protecting, and they are pretty much all the same, so if they fit, good. If you want some REAL protection buy some leather sport bike gloves...

ya, those sound like what I'm looking for.
everytime I've eaten it, the knee pads I had now would move around and only partially protect me.
I'm looking at gloves at rockymountain and they are all butt fugly!

You dont have to go that fancy, just get a neck roll like I use unless you are on an MX track I think that thing is over kill. I have tried it on and its pretty restrictive, it makes it hard to look over your shoulder...

I'll say one thing for that thing, it's a more resonable price than that one that came out a few years ago. I think those are for todays racer that isn't as technically sound of a rider but goes big and fearless and crashes alot. It's a safety device and that's good, but learning to ride safe and getting seat time will keep you from crashing, so I don't think it's needed except for these crazy kids that have been riding for a whole 3 years.

I forget from the other board who mentioned these. $24.99
My knees have taken a couple of hits with these and I didn't feel a thing.
Ya there not full on braces but for the money they can't be beat.
Only problem is on long Jawbone rides the left one rubs the top of my knee raw. But that can be easily fixed.

Also most people on my other board who race, once the helmet takes a good hit they replace the helmet. Arai or Shoei are the ones they get because there the only ones made in Japan. Which has higher QA control than China. Just because they have Shell and DOT stickers don't mean squat coming from China.

Yea Arai is the bomb, but they cost like 500 bills these days, ouch! And I wonder what is up with the knee protectors with built on shin guards? First off, my boots cover my shins already, and secondly, how the hell do you squeeze those suckers into a boot? I can't get a feeler gauge inside my boots when they are tightened on. I wear skateboard knee pads, they fit, and no shin pad extensions, works for me.

On the street I agree, any hit and replace. But in the dirt, especially in the soft sand I would be buying 10 helmets a year if I replaced after every crash. A BIG one where you take a big shot to the head or drop the helmet on a hard surface, definately replace it.

Buy some of these, and cut off the bottom 1/3.

last night I inspected the helmet and it really looks like I just landed on my face and dragged for a while, no actual mellon impact. the black eye was from when my tire hit me in the face and it left a good rubber streak across the front of the helmet. I think I can glue the crack in the sun visor and see if the manufacturer will sell me the missing vent hole cover.
my chest protector looked like it could be repaired, but it appears those things that look like screws are really fancy rivets so a new chest protector maight be in my near future.
my goggles are fine, except the lense part has a little tire streak, but I wanted to get a darker lense anyway.
today at lunch I'm gonna go by this motorcycle gear outlet thats a couple miles from work and see what I can find. I was thinking about having my wife sew the tear in the back of my gloves, but then I realized how ghetto that is
