Nodge's Gen 1 '99 CR 250

Well I finally got my buddy to pick up his sled from my garage that Ive been storing for him all summer.
The bike has been sitting on the lift for a couple weeks now waiting for the knife.
Today I could stand it no longer.
I cracked a beer and started to do my favorite thing in the whole world.....
Taking out bolts!
Within an hour and a half, the 250 is sitting on the floor, the bike is stripped, and the 1985 CR500 bottom end is sitting in the rails.

Phase 2 is drilling the cases out with 13/16th and cutting the front mounts and X.

Sorry no pics yet.
Probably tomorrow.

This is gunna be SWEEEEET!
I giggled a little bit after the motor dropped in the rails.
Might be the Kerosene fumes from my heater.

Updates tomorrow!

Since I have no pictures yet, here is a list of parts!

'85 motor.
Studded tires
Pro Circuit Platinum pipe.
IMS 3 gallon tank
RG3 Tripple Clamps
AC Racing Subframe
Pro Taper Bars. (might go with Flexx bars later on)

Undecided on what piston to put in the motor. It is currently a wiseco on a stock bore.
The exhaust bridge is currently not relieved, and there is very minor porting. Mostly a clean up job. My other ones have had way more material removed.
I think I will just get it honed and maybe clean up some more with a die grider.

Also not sure which silencer I am using yet.

Weeeeee! (kersosene still hasnt worn off yet, I think)

Scored some new (to me) hoops for my 2nd set of wheels.
They even came with next to new tires on them.
Stock hubs.
Im going to relace my stockers with some new black hoops and paint the hubs as well. Probably wont get to that for awhile either.
Not sure if I should put the ice tires on the gold ones, or the black ones..
Also not sure about the red dice valve stem caps......

yeah, I saw those on ebay. I thought it was a 125 rear wheel 1.85" wide instead on 2.15. either way, they look nice!

Before you go any further, you should polish the crap outa the frame. It's alot easier when the frame is empty to bling it up. And you can hand polish the entire frame in an afternoon to a mirror finish.

Once you polish the frame, keep in mind that its like shooting heroin, you'll have that monkey on your back forever.... Every ride will scuff it all up.

If dont intend to ride it much, polish away!

Im going to get the mounts done and then take it all back apart again to polish it up a bit. Im not going for a BLING mirror finish, but it doesnt look as good as it used to.

Oh BTW, it looks like I totally missed the ice racing season!

Looks good Nodge. Did the road bans get you yet? I got my frame welded in Oxbow. the guy did it with a mig and spool gun, I'm not really impressed with his work. After he was done he tells me that Red Hawk in Oxbow, and Spearings both have good tig welders, and there is still Marks in Carlyle.

Yep, road bans got me until at least April 20th or so.

I had a few guys offer to aluminum mig weld my frame, but I wouldnt let them.

Will it work........yes.........will it look pretty?.......no.
I'm sure with some die grinder work you can clean it up a little.

I might try carlyle or else I will take it to Saskatoon to get tig'd.
