Experimenting with fuel

Post by NightBiker07 »

I mixed 25% diesel fuel with 75% gas in my truck. I went from 16 MPG in the city to almost 20MPG in the city.

The best ive ever gotten prior to this experiment was 21.5MPG on the highway, and i'm almost there with only city miles.

Ive only done one tank so far, im trying my second tank now, this one is mixed a little heavier on the diesel side.

Thoughts?

Diesel fuel has a higher energy density than gasoline. On average, 1 gallon of diesel fuel contains 147,000 BTU, while 1 gallon of gasoline contains 125,000 BTU. This, combined partialy explains why diesel engines get better mileage than equivalent gasoline engines.

Wonder what the repercussions would be on the injectors and the mass airflow sensor?
What about the cat converter?

Next vehicle I buy will be a diesel.
Should have already done it.
My 6 liter GMC does ok but, wish I'd bought a diesel dually.

Injectors need lube

Air flow sensor only measures air

The neighbor next to my work is a ski resort. Needless to say they hire total retards to drive their buses. One of them filled a diesel tank with gas, no one was sure of the ratio. They emptied the tank into 55 gallon drums and were going to get it picked up for disposal, I told them I would take it. I ran it through my old 65 4x4 truck and it ran ok...I didn't really notice any difference other than the weight of my wallet.

Have you figured out the cost per mile with the higher price of diesel? Is it saving you any money? I wonder what it would work out to around here diesel is around $4.10 and gas is $3.95.

well....anything higher than about 35% and your truck will run erratically at times. bogging and stumbling.

when it is running fine, there isnt any smoke or foul odor, i wouldnt think it would hurt cats.

i wouldnt think it would hurt cats
why chance it, just rip them out, or stick a shotgun down there and "port" it
the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.
