AF swap, what springs

Post by Hillbilly500 »

Ok, did the af swap and love it.. How much have people been increasing the front springs to compensate for the heavier motor? Just one size up? Want to keep the cr250 bike balanced feeling.. Right now it does feel a little nose heavy

It all depends on the spring rate in the forks at the moment and your weight plus the little extra added from the 500 engine.
It could be possible the springs in there now have to much rate to start with or could be way under rated and then again they could be spot on now.
First weigh yourself then add about 5.5-6 lbs gen3 CR250 ( 21 lbs gen3 CR125 ) for the engine and check with a suspension place to see what rate spring they recommend.
Gen 1 CR125 / 250, Gen 2 CR125 / 250, Gen 3 CRF450 and Gen 4 CRF250 / 450 and the type of conversion will all have a different weight value to consider.
Then check to see what rate spring you have in your forks now and adjust from there.

Yep, again rather versed with setting up suspension on bikes, just wondering what guys have been doing and having good luck in the af... If 9 pounds is all that it is different should be easy to figure.. Thanks

what weight are you? what bike is it? the motors shouldnt really upset the ballance. try riding it for a while, its prob just you getting used to a new bike feel.
do it!... cos if you dont, youll spend the rest of your life thinking about it anyway!
