Can you lower a steelie?

Well I got my grubby hands on a mint complete 2001 roller. Nut my question is can you lower it? I only have a 29 " inseam and it would be nice to have part of my foot in the ground for the gnarly woods stuff. I have no idea what the seat height is but 1.5-2" would be perfect. Ideas?

The brit way means almost unuseable and looks like utter shit.

Yup....

The right way involves taking the forks apart to add sleeves that limit the amount of travel the forks are allowed to extend. Obviously the springs need alteration too to provide the corect preload.... The end result are forks that 5" shorter that have the same characteristics of regular forks, just shorter.

The "Brit Way " is to offset the handlebars enough to slid the forks 5" up and out of the top triple clamp......

Altering the shock is slimilar..... or I have even seen the top mount moved up a bunch. There are lowering linkages available for newer bikes, I doubt one will fit a steelie.

To Ghetto it , you take the stiffest spring you can find, and shorten it enough to lower the bike to where you want it , but still be progressivly stiff enough to not bottom out.. as you can expectt, the bike rides like shit.

I'm sure their are some suspension guys in Hi to help you out.....

100HP might be laughing at that, but it's the easiest way of getting a low seat hight.

Steelies have a couch for a seat - taking 1.5/2" will bring the thickness to around that of many LM bikes. Done properly, it's always reversible & you don't compromise suspension. There's plenty of foam till you get to the rear subframe cross member tube, & the little landing on the seat base for it (at least on my 02 CRE). I'd suggest a step seat from that point forward.

Becaue of my knees. I've gone the opposite direction, one seat is 6" high, the other is 7.5" high. There is no way I reach the ground easily - in my terrain I tend to grab for the nearest tree branch or rock overhang before trying to put my foot down.My bike looks totally trashed, there's no point in making it pretty because of the places I ride & the sacrificial way I have to treat it. It goes over the cliff before I do, no matter how much I like it!

It's sized like it would fit Bob perfectly.
