Pala Raceway 7/5

Post by iggys-amsoil »

Well after a month off, vacation and bike maintainance, (suspension redone by Shocktherapy Flex bars freshened up  , newchain/sprockets, fresh grease in the swing arm and link assem. new MSR clutch lever and perch, trimming of the cases for the shock spring, new shock cover, some other time consuming stuff) I decided to head for Pala since a lot of people are raving about it.

From the pictures and helmet cam video I didn't think the place would be all that. Well the Vet track is very good for newbies to track riding. There's only one small step up, on my third lap I made it everytime after. When I first went out there was a downed rider right near us, so we only got one lap until they got him off. While waiting went over to the main track and Mercy Air flight is there for someone at the top of the big step up. :? So I go over to the trailer to finish off the membership and get the card and sorta free T-shirt.
The dirt is really good there, pretty much like milestone. The crew keep it water good, slippery at times, but I heard and found out that Kenda fronts don't like the mud, but once dried a bit the tires good. Later the main track there's only two guys on it. Its definately more fun but never really got up to speed, to much to learn in a day and some of the corners are just like the Vet track so confusion slowed me. I figure next time I'll spend more time there depending on who's there. I did make the small step ups but the big one I dunno, its a long way up and the two I watched had the rear locked on landing to make the corner. But I did hear and it looks like coming up short is not that big a hit. :? We'll see next time. Used a gallon and half which more than normal for me so I called it a good day.
Oh ya! The plushness of the forks are great now. Its like I couldn't tell when the front was landing off jumps. Thanks Steve

You guys on the coast near Hwy 76 ought a give it a try. It was warm there but the ocean breeze helped a lot in staying cool.

I still havent made it up there, but that big step up looks insane. I heard that top of 4th or 5th is the only way to clear it. If you dont me asking, how much does a revalve run for the front forks, I've got an 03 cr250.

Well it was $200 for both, but I get a Vet X discount and a return customer. Keep in mind though, springs if needed are another $200 front and rear.

Ya and from the reports on the other board there was a lot of carnage, more than usual. Plus a 45 minute delay from a head on, on the highway before the Casino that I missed.

Just found out I'm heading to Pala tomorrow in the afternoon, I cant wait. I actually need just the front done as I have a rear ohlins shock setup for my weight already. BTW, how long is the turn around time on a revalve?

Not sure, have to call and ask.

When I got there to pick mine up the shock was done but the forks had to be put together. It only took him about a half hour. I had 30 seconds left to clock in at work but that was my fault cause I BS'ed with him to long. And a couple of key moves in traffic helped too.
