Leather Cleaner
Leather Cleaner
I have leather interior in my ride and I was curious about what you guys use to clean it. I do not want to use something that will cause it to discolor or crack. I have a 3yr old and a 1 year old so a good cleaner is a must. The leather is black if that makes a difference.

Cleaning and conditioning leather are two different things (although there are some products that are a cleaner and conditioner in one) dont work as great IMO though. Any quality product will work ok(mothers, lexol, meguiars) . there are three that i usually use, I use One Grand exclusively, all hand made family owned and operated company since the 30's, but i detail luxury cars for a living so that could be over kill for your appllication. Depends on the type of leather also.
What kind of car is it?
You would be surprised that most "leather" interiors, are not, leather, but synthetic or vinyl. Almost no car manufacturer has all leather seats in cars below the $50,000(in my experience) But the vinyl/fake leather is usually so good that you cannot tell the difference, and if it is leather, it is usually just the seat bottom, sometimes the back, but usually not the sides of the seats. BUT you can clean the vynil/fake leather with leather products and it looks good. With black leather i would use the one grand because i brings the sheen out and makes it look brand new. Great for really negelected leather also. I really like this beeswax based conditioner, makes it so soft like butter, but for black does not bring out the shine as much. On connely leather(harder and harder to find now), I use connley hide food from rolls royce.
The oils from your skin dry the leather out. So if you wear shorts reguarly your seat will become "dryer" noticibly quicker than the passengers side. Go by feel. Dont let your leather get dry(when conditioned properly it will feel more like cloth, when dry, more like paper) I hope this is not too much info.

Clean it first, then apply the conditioner.

Just a note. The front passenger seat in my truck is getting stiff. The drivers side, not as bad, but stiffening. The rear is fine. Nice and supple.
The upholstery guy told me it's from the sun .
My front side windows are not tinted, but my back are.
The moral of the story. Keep the leather conditioned.
