All I know about all of this is as Joe Blow the consumer if I bought a SH sight unseen based on knowing that their reliability is very very good and I received a bike that looked like that I would be very pissed. Even if the welds are strong enough to handle everything I could throw at it. I might be able to look past the weld by the footpeg but those other two just plain look like shit. And why the hell the cradle doesn't even line up is beyond me! Does Honda produce them that way?teamdns wrote:

back to the custom or production thing.
SH bikes are production. This quote is taken from an email AJ sent me.
"and yes they are considered production, by the AMA and meet the hologazation rules and are approved for AMA pro Racing where there is a class fo rthem (like AMA supermotrad) "
So there you go. TTM bikes are true customs and SH bikes are considered production and not custom.
BTW, its to dark to mow right now

This has been beat to death, one says up the other says down. All of the things said are opinions. However it is translated it is what it is. Custom production whatever. This would be alot easier to talk about if we were all sitting around a table with some beers! I don't dislike SH or AJ for that matter, but I have dealt with Mike personally, and Myself I would do bussiness with him. To get into a pissing match over wether or not SH bikes are production or customs kind of lays in the eye of the beholder and really doesn't matter. If I paid 9 or 10K for the bike above, sombody would be getting their ass kicked. It's good we can be debating this now, because the stark reality is we're talking about a bike that ceased production 7 model years ago. Hopfully in 7 years from now we will still be debating and saying remember when!

hi, is that frame weld job by service honda? the frame rails dont match/joint....and look at that frame foot peg area
I was at amago, about 2 years ago, when I met the guy, that owned this bike. He said he couldn't start it, and that if I could start it, I could ride it.I liked the looks of the bike, and had wanted 1, so I showed him how to start a 500. It did start, but ran like shit, I was afraid to jump the thing, because it had no power

The bike had a bag ignition which AJ replaced, and then that was later replaced with stock components (hat tip to Bob, Jay Lewis and TTM Mike...). The jetting is still conservative, but is 2 sizes smaller on the main and pilot, and has the DGN needle. I also learned that it - all CR500Rs? - needs 5 slow priming kicks. I would argue it had plenty of power then, but it definitely has plenty now.

Agreed, and exactly my point. Unless the motor was put together wrong (I doubt AJ hasnt figured out yet how to do build a 500) there is lots of possibilites (bad gas, improper mix ratio or forgot to put oil in gas all together, etc etc.). Trust me, im not defending AJ, not in the least (especially after my phone call with Bobber today) just stating a point that you never met this guy and just because he owns a $10K dirt bike dont mean he has a clue how to tune or operate it, thats all...

And why in the fuck are the same dudes still complaining about this shit? I like my SH, and given my experience with them so far and the enjoyment I've had with the bike I may be inclined to purchase another. If you don't like the welds take your fucking money some place else. Atleast we HAVE options in this small ass market of 500AFs. If you're a guy that just couldn't possibly enjoy a SH or absolutely need a stronger platform for all that hardcore single track riding you do, you know who to call. End of discussion...
Couldn't have said it better myself, Thanks
