Flywheel ,stator and cdi testing

I'm wondering how to test stator and cdi box on an 84 cr500. And can I use a flywheel from another year .

I have a mount for the plate on the toolpost of my lathe, hold most flywheels in the chuck and spin things up to check.
I have been changing these old short rod engines over to use the 125 cdi since the map is almost identical. it can take a bunch of shuffling depending on the year of parts you find.
