Top end rebuild

Post by mattt »

I'm about half way thru a top end rebuild on a 93 CR500. Recently got the cylinder back from machine shop and have new piston and parts. Any do's don't's or change this since you're into it now anyway?

Otherwise, a stock rebuild with new O/S piston & Honda gaskets is what the plan is currently.

I'm all ears for opinions, suggestions, must-do's, and don't bother's.

I'm second owner of this 500 since 1995 and rode it mostly at the dunes back in the day. Going forward I foresee more desert riding over the dunes as our former dunes riding group has dissolved over the years.

Thanks.

Matt, You might want to verify the cylinder port edges have been properly chamfered and have no sharp edges. I like to go over the port edges with fine emery cloth just to be sure. Also the exhaust port bridge must be relieved after the cylinder has been bored.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will check that before final assembly. It was discussed with the machine shop prior to him proceeding with the work.

I'd like to hear opinions, both good and bad on the MSV exhaust flange. Thanks.
