High Desert Federal Credit Union Scholarship

Excelling in a difficult profession requires avid faith and self-
confidence in oneself. Once attained, faith takes the shape of self-
confidence, and self-confidence fuels an inextinguishable drive for
success. Because of this basic principle of self-assurance, some people
with seemingly mediocre talent, but equipped with great inner drive,
sometimes go much further than people with vastly superior talent. At a
glance, my high school transcripts seem average. However, a point of
intersection between mediocrity and excellence is in sight. I have a
plan.

The simple reason most people never attain their goals is because they
do not define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or
achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan
to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.
Medicine and healthcare has always been at the forefront of my
interest. From age six, I have been actively involved in sports, and
have set personal goals for myself in physical conditioning. I have a
competitive nature, and I always strive to be the best. Through sports
and fitness, I developed a passion for anatomy and the capabilities of
the human body. On a quest for knowledge, I attended two medical
leadership seminars over the past two summers, and have earned college
credit for both.

I received acceptance from Fresno State University and I will begin
school in August. I plan to attain my undergraduate degree from FSU,
majoring in the Interdisciplinary Health and Rehabilitation Sciences,
and ultimately achieving a Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy. After
my post-graduate studies, I plan to start my own practice somewhere in
California.

Physical Therapy has covered all ground and touched all the bases of
interest in my life. I have the opportunity to live a dream. Not a
dream of self-elevation as presented in the conduct of professional
athletes, but a humble reality focused on helping the weak and
recovering. I have the privilege of combining two of my major areas of
interest into one field. I will merge the technical field of medicine
and healthcare with the excitement of athletics to create a career that
serves as not only another job, but a passion for empathy that will
positively impact the lives of my clients.

I know exactly what career I would like to pursue, and have planned
each step in an effort to get there. This may be the single most
distinguishing characteristic between the average high school senior
and me. The average high school student has no idea what career field
he or she would like to follow, and furthermore, has no idea how to get
there. I do. This scholarship will help pay for some of the costs of
tuition, help lighten the financial burden that weighs heavily upon the
mind of a working student, and ultimately help to lay the foundation
for my education and aspiring career.
