RMZ CR500 build
RMZ CR500 build
I miss my old 93 CR500. Since then I have become used to Suzuki cornering since 2001. I dont mean to bash your honda chassis, but I just feel better and faster on a yellow bike. To each his own I guess.
Currently I have a 2008 RMZ250, and the suspension and handling are perfect for me. I can get another rolling chassis for $1300. No plans of dismantling my good bike.
Before I spend an extra week or two over the road in my semi to pay for this, I have 1 important question...
Who would be able to mod my chassis for a 89up CR500 complete with exhaust mounts, head stay, cdi mount and whatever else needs done?
Can you guys point me to any1 who can do a perfect strong job?
I am also looking for some1 who can make custom offset bar mounts. Thanks

This has me thinking steel rm250 http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/590139 ... onversion/
Maybe I should do a steel rm500 and keep the rm250 2s motor for when the 250fourstroke blows up..... not sure what route to take.
The only 3 things I know for certain are...1- I want a dam good unbreakable frame and 2- modern suspension set up right 3- suzuki handling

There's another one that looked really nice but I can't find it at the moment.

All I can say is, if send that job to MPS in Toledo, you deserve every ounce of heartache you get. You've been warned.

After more thought i think I'm going to try and grab a 2001 or newer rm250.
Less vibes with the steel frame and no worries about the Y.
Ive got my eye out for a motor that i can put a rekluse clutch, and a decompressor in. Not sure what gear sets had the widest ratio... i saw it on here somewhere b4. Any help finding a deal would be appreciated. I am near Erie PA.
I traded my fully modded 2001 rm250 5 years ago to get a yz125 for my niece.
Wish i still had it.
I have heard about MPS. I hear bad things. For some reason theres no close up pics of the fabrication work on thier site..... makes ya wonder
Screw the aluminum. I cant do it right myself but welding steel motor/pipe mounts and making a head stay can be done in my buddies shop. I need to find out if 2008 RMZ250 forks and shock will work on the old steel 2 stroke. Best suspension i've ever had 4 me and i dont think the weight will be much different. little worried about the linkage ratio.

some like steel frames because they are flimsy or flex.
I rode the 1st gen honda and hated it, but loved my 06 rmz450 and 08 rmz250. can only imagine the vibes of a 500 in the al frame. my 93 steel vibrated a lot. Its all just a "to each his own" thing i think.
My biggest problems with aluminum is finding somebody to do an rmz right.
I dont want to piss with a cracked Y or pay someone for a shit job.
I dont think steel will be as much of a problem.
When i find a deal im gonna grab an rm250 and prob a whole 500. when the rmz blows up i might throw the 2 stroke 250 in it. I just want to take my time,
reseach, and do it right.

I had a hard time finding a cr500. Wound up getting a KX500 and a 2001 RM250 chassis for it. Its on kxriders http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.ph ... 398.0.html
