electrical gremlin?

Post by ddewey78 »

Ok, so i sorted my last problem with an air leak out, now another issue. The bike started intermittently cutting out, very minor at first, but eventually acting like i was pushing the kill switch. I disconnected the switch, but still acted up, even completely dying a time or two. It seemed to mostly do it under a load, not too much at idle. new plug, same deal. I am thinking coil possibly? Am i on the right track?

Cheapest items first is always a good choice.
However, do you have a ohm meter?
If so you can test your coil to see whats up.
If it's good, you can test your stator.

Start with checking all grounds, then look for broken insulation on wires.
plug wire and cap, stator, coil, CDI that is about everything unless you have a plugged vent in your gas cap

If you have another bike around that you can swap parts with that helps to locate problem areas too.

Where are you located?
Gen 2 AF, yes it's a SH, so I can call it an AF Damm it!

I ordered a cap and coil, because 1 I'm lazy, if I'm gonna tear it down to check it, its cheap enough to throe a new one in, and 2, with 3 500's it won't hurt to have a spare. I'm located in California, San jose area.
