1986 500 clutch upgrade

Post by kelroy_leon »

From what I gather, I can run the Hinson goods in my 86'? I have the newer outer cover allowing me to run the larger clutch pack. It seems that I can run the Hinson goods for the 92-07 cr250 in this. Am I correct or is there something that I am missing? I also see that they offer 2 baskets, one with gear and cushions and 1 without? What one should I buy? Any help will be appreciated on this matter.

Correction, the 90/01 CR500 basket does not have the gear or cushions. Would I use that one or the CR250 basket?

Use the cr5 parts unless you're up for buying the cr250 internal gear also.
With this clutch change you'll need the 1990 & newer lifter rod and bearing also.
Simple upgrade really

I would not be opposed to buying the 250 gear if need be. Would that simplify the process? In my moment of simplicity, which gear are we referring to? Thanks

the 500 wider basket would just fit
the cr250 stuff you'd need to change the lifter rod length, washers for the inner hub etc

but the 250 option does have more baskets available, like the barnett stainless fingered model
