picked up a 2001 cr250 to start a conversion on

I wanted to do this since I got my bike and finally found a gen 1 roller I was gonna get, then luckily found this gen 2 one I cant wait to start the project..

here are a few pics it was kinda apart when I got it then I stripped it down.

Wow - that thing was dirty! Conversion process is essentially the same as a Gen3. Been riding my Gen2 conversion since 2008 - still holding up well.
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...

yea it was a mess I don't think they ever cleaned the thing oil and coaldirt is 1/4 inch thick on the motor...

I'm going to go over all the bearings and get the roller up to par and rebuild the front forks (it came with a pivot works seal kit in the package) then work on the motor swap.. Ican't be with out my bike for long :D

Other than the ignition and clutch side cover, what ither motor type parts fits the 500 from the 250

x491 I love my Gen 2 and have had no issues. Not much more with transfer over from the 250 minus what you previously mentioned.

Sorry I dont really have any better pics yet.. mine is the red and black one in the front.. I had got new plastics but they came in the wrong year :(
Ill get some better pics up soon

But so far I absolutely love it .. seems better in every way than my 95
