Fire
Fire
I'm just now reading this in the online edition of the local newspaper.
I'm gonna head up there in a little while.
My '85 frame and paint package was in there as well as a '68 DT1, '71 CB450
and various other frames and parts of mine.
We'll see if anything survived.

Sam had about 150 bikes in there, mostly vintage bikes.

My heart was in my throat when I drove up.
It's worse than I had imagined.
They didn't get anything out, it spread so fast.
Then about 300 rounds of ammo started going off.
The aluminum framed bikes just melted.
They look like crime scene outlines.
I had 3 bikes in there and a cr500 frame.
I found them and they're toast.
The frame is ok I think.
Here's an '89 CR500.
This bike look incomplete but it was ridden just last weekend.
Any aluminum on any bike just melted.
Here's my '85 frame and subframe.
Various pics.

Sam passed out while it was burning.
EMS had to look after him.
30 years of his life went up.
I'm glad I skipped going up there yesterday.
Look real close at that pic of the CR250.
You'll see the footpegs, and the brake rotor right where they were on the bike.
Also, he was building an '00 conversion.
It just melted. The engine was in, etc...
There are big slabs of melted aluminum, looks like silver lava.
I'm going up there again tomorrow and will get some more pics.
We're gonna go through and get serial numbers etc...
Maybe we'll find a few good surprises.

Man that sucks.....Over this way, one of our customer's garages just burned down.
A sick Big Block Monte Carlo, an SS Nova and another cherry classic car up in smoke. The remnants are similar to the pictures of the bikes... Fires must be going around right now. Makes your heart sink :/

That sucks. Fire in 2003 took out a shed of mine with a bunch of parts in it. Anything aluminum turned to silver lava, as mentioned above. Danny had some stuff in there too - homeowners insurance didnt cover - as it excluded auto parts. BS
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...
I snagged that liner from the 500.
The rings were still in it and the piston is melted against the bore.
Anyhow, anybody have an opinion on my '85 frame I got out of there?
Reckon it's useable or does anyone know if that kind of heat will make it brittle?
I have a nice '97 frame in the basement but I'd like to keep it original if possible.

dude, that sucks! Like hoofarted said, it happened to us years ago and it looked just like that... I had a 462 lincoln motor and c6 trans where all of the aluminum melted and pooled up in the dirt. real bummer, I hope you guys can get something from insurance.

Man thats unbelievable seeing the slevee and gasket jus sitting there. You'd a thought the gasket would of melted. Maybe the trans is salvagable?
Sorry to see.

All of that stuff has been in the dump since a few days after the fire.iggys-amsoil wrote:Man thats unbelievable seeing the slevee and gasket jus sitting there. You'd a thought the gasket would of melted. Maybe the trans is salvagable?

I snagged that liner though. The rings were still in it and the piston was melted to the side.
I also snagged a subframe for $20 from a guy on Marks swapmeet after I posted those recent pics.
I painted all of it.
