Got me a Duramax!
A friend was changing out everything and had a nice 2001 duramax we've used to go to the climbs and other rides before.
Its sitting at 212,000kms and i got a sweet deal on it.
2" lift and 35" tires, i'll post pics tommorrow, pretty dark out now.
I'm pretty excited, now i need to flush out my other truck, the 1999 k2500 6l with 525,000 km!. Got a local farm kid interested.
I was getting 10-11mpg (imperial) with the 6l, this diesel has been getting 28 at speed limit

no it was something difrent, something to do with not being mounted at enough points and the torque from 4wd screwed a housing over....
he ended up welding another mount on after fixing it so it dosent happen again
the truck i seen it on wasnt abused often either

the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.

transfer case
Pump rub is the transfer case issue. I think it's 01-05 that had the problem, some have it some don't. there is an inexpensive fix that takes about a day to do. do a search on dieselplace.com, you get complete walkthroughs with pics there. Great site, kinda like this one. Your biggest concern with that truck (year) is injectors, high dollar and a pain in the ass to change. There also a piss poor design. A gallon of cheap walmart 2stroke oil every 2500 miles in the fuel helps keep em lubed up. fuel filter every oil change too. diesels really like clean fuel. bosch is the only one that makes the injectors and there REAL $$$$$$$ proud of em. longer you can make them last the better. stealer wants $5000 to $6000 to change injectors, you can do it yourself for about $1800 and 16 hours.
There's a fine line between "just enough throttle", and "way to fuggin much"

Ya, I repair alot of damaged duramax engines and twice as many 24v cummins engines. I should do ok with it. We did r&d with edge and Bullydog on the early trucks also. The dude I got it from Stood up with me at my wedding, been friends with him before we could talk. I know his parents very good too and his dad did all the diesel work at the Chevrolet dealer til he retired 3 years ago. Now he works for a little garage here and chooses what he'll work on.

You know what to watch for then. great trucks! mines an 04 LB7 dually, its paid for and been the best truck i've ever owned! I just can't leave it alone, I do one mod on it and say I'll stop there, and then I start thinking about the next thing I can do. [/img]

thats why i love my ranger, if it needs more than $200 and 5 hours of workstealer wants $5000 to $6000 to change injectors, you can do it yourself for about $1800 and 16 hours.
just light it on fire collect insurance and buy another....

I'm not sure the ranger will pull quite the load my silverado will though, maybe if we put your ranger in the bed of my truck we can get it to pull a load

I've sent pictures to Bob about our southern Manitoba winters, I need a big truck. This one needs some shock upgrades and the idler arm support added. Its not going to the long jump contest but it'll be off the ground forsure, already was today
