Most Gen 1 conversions take a single weekend to do.

Thanks for that bob.

I guess I'm just bitchy cause I want to build the motor (top and bottom) and replace the whole exhaust but I can't afford it right now.

Ill be finished with it saturday, then I'm gonna ride it till it blows up or have money saved to rebuild it, whichever comes first

well I got my head out of my ass for the day and finished my build. I jet it and took it to the mx track today (30* outside temp) and had a blast. it needs a little more refining but its done. Now the task of going through the suspension and getting it to work....

The power is a blast. The power has already made me a lazy rider in the corners.

Iv got a yz250 thats setup perf for me on the MX track. I consider this my primary bike.

WTF do I do with this 500? Colorado has a huge SM following (with a great local race series) that iv raced in for 3 years now, i only did 3 races in 2010 though....Im not sure if I should SM this bike or ditch the gen1 and aim for a gen II, III, IV? it does kinda handle like doo-doo, i plan on going through the suspension and getting it setup but I dont know if its going to make me like the handling that much better.

or just trade it for a 450.......

I pulled the motor friday night and took the cylinder up to the shop to get bored (ill be at +1.5mm) and a new piston. so a fresh top end, new pipe, new silencer, reworked suspension and im going to reasess. im stoked. supermoto wheels to come....

Well.....this bike has been together for a while and I did a bunch of MX days on it. I looped it practising starts (ha ha go figure) and bashed the radiator. It took a while for me to find time to weld the rad but its done. I also got a correct silencer for it. It's a turbine core sparky. The 91 to 01....

I finally feel like the bike is complete. Graphics are waiting for me. I'm doing a 2 day trip to Montrose (colorado) with it to see about long ride reliability. Graphics after that. Then its picture day and then its ride the wheels off it.

Awesome, sounds like fun times! Reason I was asking about the suspension was I'm getting ready to finish up my Gen 1 soon and ride mostly fast desert trails and sand dunes and was looking for any tips to help improve the suspension and handling.
