Both of the AF's we have built, stock style out of aluminum plate. As of now, no problems. Stock style seems to work.

did you do 450 or 250? the 450 needs a bulk head welded to shock tower plates will be kinda long, seen it done just wonder how well it worked out after poundin on it for awile. thanks

Our bikes are a 125 and a 250f chassis. If I built a 450, I would weld a centered mount to duplicate stock.

If stock 125 stays can be made to work, great. I bent some aluminum plate after making cardboard templates. On the 250f, we mounted the coil on the headstay by the shock.

Whichever method you choose, pick one that supports from above and behind the mount of the cyl. head. Try and keep it as close to inline with the arch the motor travels from the swingarm pivot point. Some may balk because of who made it but, The TTM design is the best I've seen for the head stay. Only problem with it is the average home builder doesn't have the means to duplicate it.

the headstay brakets i just made for a 450 wouldnt have been a inch longer than the ones on my crf 250 framed conversion and it runs smoother than when it was in the steel frame and is also smoother than a mates 01 cr250

I went with a head stay on my 450 to mimic the the front radius tube on the frame and used both bolt holes on each side. Welding a block and 6" straps just seemed to weak for me.

I am 6'4" 250lbs in gear and ride almost exclusively MX, ending its 3rd season and no vibes, no issues, no cracks and solid as can be. But some will jump on here and say it is too stiff and not flexible enough and will lead to my frame cracking

That is a style that mimics stock. It supports from the center and does not allow fore to aft flex

eyesky, maybe the difference is between the gen 3 and gen 4 frames. I am glad it is working out for you.

The gen3 was a two stroke frame adapted for the 450 but the gen 4 was built for the 450. Maybe the side mounts work better on the gen 4.

Asking for feedback on this design. Animal Power fabricated this headstay out of flat stock. I got paranoid about frame flex after reading the threads and added the backbone to the bracket. I really like the previous halo design.Image

I satisfied with the work. Frame looks oem to me
Ray had a bout with an illness so it took a long time.
He treated me right. Motor was an exact fit , snug
and no voids. Hopefully no excessive vibration.

I have the skills to fit but not to weld aluminum. I decided not to reinvent
and get it done. You will find there are a hundred small things to think about. I have been racin instead of working on my project. I have ramped it up now Idaho desert riding is starting.
