Hi all, new member, bought a 87 CR500 basket case and just got her going, I'm not real sure when her first life ended but I'm going to say around the late 90's. I went with a KX rear rim 36 spoke and a 2002 cr front rim, was able to reuse spokes. My case cover was rotted as well as my radiators, but for $175 I got a good case and a set of nice 86 radiators. Some one had done crank bearings and a polished rod some time. Had a wiseco piston, I honed cylinder, new rings and drilled face of piston. I got the bike for450 as non running. New maier plastic, powdercoat frames, warp9 rims, powdercoated hubs, seatcover, new exhaust. Just recently bought a used lower shock linkage in good shspe.
I have a 94 KX500, and honestly the honds feels faster, my kx is in good shape, everybody seems to think the KX is a little more powerful. It just doesn't seem to have the abrupt hit the CR has.
