I had to relocate the timing tab and it did have the clutch shaft retainer. Questioned the timing that I had and swapped the 500 unit back in. Couldn't really tell a performance difference between the two, since I used the 125 CDI on both. Starting might be a little harder w/the 500 electrics. I mod...

I figured since the 125 stator fit the 500, why wouldn't a late 500 unit fit the old engine. Talking to the guy in R&D, I questioned him on what the difference was....he didn't know. He thought I was crazy when I told him about the 125 electrics that I was running. "Well....the computer sho...

Bad ass bike, man. I had starting issues also, especially when the engine had 0 hours. I've been kicking thumpers since I was 12, but this was rediculous. GSS modded my cylinder..... if the deck was cut any more, the piston would've been too close to the head. I noticed that the fire seemed weak. It...

stator mount???

I was searching for lighting stators and found a 100w unit for '90-up 500s.
My engine is an 87, and they claim it won't work.
So, what's the difference in the mount pads between the early and 90-up????

I thought they were all the same.

Are the early flywheels the same diameter as what an 87 has???
My engine came w/a FWW.
I left it off, and I don't plan to ever use the stupid thing. Though it's a cool paper weight.

If I remember correctly, I think it screws on and has retaining screws.

It's yours, if it'll fit.

Let me know.

I actually ran the 480 today for the first time w/the av gas. I mixed a small batch 1/3 av to 2/3 super. I didn't notice any performance loss/gain, and I didn't run it fast enough to check head temps. The smell was a tad different, I'm sure 100% would smell sweeter. I unloaded the bike in San Antoni...

Could have bolted the silencer directly to the frame, but it would have barely engaged the pipe.
Just couldn't bring myself to hammer out a piece of metal into a Z.....Too bad it'll be hiding behind the # plate.

I've never tried castor oil. I've heard stories form the old racers on how they are addicted to the smell and how good it is. My first oil burner was a 79 Elsie, the first oil I burnt was MC1. My first modern bikmewas an 83 CR250, I ran the MC1 at 32:1....which is waht Honda recommended. It blubbere...

I fabbed up several Chevy V8 twin turbo systems the last few years. I'm in the process of building a TT/BB 461 for my Camaro. I had my pistons thermal and dry film coated.....I'll eventually have the chambers, runners and valves coated as well. I side-lined the Camaro to get my bikes in order. I did...

I prefer the "hands on" approach I prefer the compression gauge approach. Where the exhaust port closes has a tremendous impact on cylinder pressure, shaved head or not. Are you talking about a "foot" driven RPM? Gage or actual CR, what ever works for the guy behind the bars. Th...

The 500? It recieved Glenn's cylinder and head treatments. So yes, compression is border-line pump gas compatible. Just curious, did you do a installed CC to get volume and if so, what did you come up with? I did a flat plate and installed on my stock dome and came up with 11:1. I thought these wer...

As of yesterday the 480 is easier to start....I installed a decompression valve. I had a routine down, I could get it lit w/3 to 4 kicks when cold. I just made damb sure I didn't kill the thing 'till I was ready to. I made the mistake of stalling it one day across town (45-14 street gearing). It mus...

it'll run, but in our dyno testing anything over av gas makes more power, it just doesnt have the burn rate. VPs mr11 cut with pump premium is some excellent juice, probably best we've ever run, and its cheaper than mr9,u2, or u4.2 right now too That's good to know. I'll have to see where that's ava...

decompressor

I've heard some small talk about decompressor valves, but no hard evidence of which ones work/don't work. I searched ebay and found a vendor for quality stainless units. He guaranteed that they disengage at start up. I figured I'd need one on the 500 since the old right knee isn't what it used to be...
