Float Valve
Based on Rosco's suggestion I pulled apart the carb tonight to inspect the float valve. The top of the float valve has some pretty serious grooves worn in the four raised sections of the body. I bet this was sticking and hence no fuel etc. I have another used carb coming but tomorrow I will try to l...

have you played with the choke circuit/what is it set at I do not know how many clicks the choke is at but it idles fine and the idle adjustment does have an immediate effect of the idle speed so I am assuming all is good there. As well when I did have it running the choke did make a difference to ...

The other thing I thought of is since I have a large Clark tank and an older style PJ with the straight inlet my fuel hose is an S shape. It seems at times that there is an air lock because of this in the fuel line. Again something that getting a newer PJ or PWK will fix since the inlet is at an ang...

Here the latest in the ongoing saga :D I put the new coil on with another wire and another new cap - reverified all connections. Now I have a decent spark - white blue and not a bad strength either. I checked it several times and it was consistent. I re-attached the kill button and the spark stayed ...

The carb is very clean - cleaned it several times. The reeds are new with 94 cage. The top end has 30 minutes on it. The air filter is brand new Uni. I just replaced the ignition with 1993 CR250. The spark is still not what I would call great - sometimes orange and not overly large. I started it on ...

I got my 250 ignition on - 20 kicks to get it going the first time, warmed it up, idled perfect, shut it off, kicked 20 more gave up without it going.hoofarted wrote:Yeah all coils are about the same for the most part.
Oh...250 ignition components = Winning! Easier starts, really wakes it up!

what does moving the stator such that the bolt slides in the top hole adjust or what is its purpose? :bash: if the stator is seated properly you cant move it unless you remove the little plate on the bottom and there you go 2 slotted holes I got the stator and air gap straightened out - kicked abou...

uh dude you dont use the stator plate :D . 2 little screws on the pick up is how you adjust it If the timing is fixed why is the top slot in the 1993 CR250 stator plate larger than the bolt diameter - ie. slotted? The bottom hole has the timing plate on it which limits adjustment but what does movi...

is it new 250 setup with all the tps bullshit ? New reeds / top end just about everything is new. It is a 1993 CR250 ignition. It ran perfect with the old ignition when it went but perodically had no spark. I can move the stator plate up and down some with the two bolts loosened. There is lots of s...

Ok I used the two screws to adjust it. I got the thing together, kicked and kicked - nothing. Lots of spark tough. I am thinking that the timing is off - what little adjustment there is.100hp honda wrote:uh dude you dont use the stator plate . 2 little screws on the pick up is how you adjust it

Pulser Coil / Flywheel Air Gap
I put my CR250 ignition on and when I measured the air gap it was about 0.35 mm - much less than with the CR500 ignition which was 0.7 mm. I could not seem to get it any larger than that by moving the stator plate. The bike has great spark. Is this gap enough? What is the lowest you guys have ever r...

FMF
That's exactly what I used to get when I put a PC pipe on my 85 thru 88 500's so I gave up on them and just stick with FMF. Never tried a PC on my 90's motors. My 85 (1997 frame) pulls like jet right off idle - hard to accelerate without pulling up the front end and ripping the back tire off. I hav...

Re: Ingition
I have a 93 ignition and it works really well- not as abrupt as the 85 setup I have a 1993 CR250 stator / flywheel and CDI bought - now I have to wait for it to come. I got the CR250 ignition on but have not got it finished yet - ran out of time and wire ties. I could not get the pulser coil / flyw...

had the exact same thing happen on the '86 was a bad stator coil. Got replacement from ricky stator, soldered it on oth and never had another issue with the ignition on that bike. Hopefully you hoons can help me.I bought a 90 cr500 with broken right center and outer cases.I rebuilt that engine completely bearings, seals, new cases, piston ect... I have been gathering parts to rebuild a 86CR500 engine I bought off craigslist.I have everything for it now except a new piston. What brand do you guy's recommend? also, what year pistons interchange with the 86 engine? It's .060 now and has to go .080. Just a note about something I found out about...

Typical of a bad CDI, or stator. Cold = Works Hot - No work. The bike was cold tonight when I tried it - still no spark. I'd say the only peace I will have is replace the stator and the CDI - especially since I often ride deep in the woods. I am trying to decide now to replace with newer CR500 igni...

Has Anyone Ever Experienced This?
Ok so my 1985 CR500 engine had a bad / no spark. I put a new coil / cap and plug in last night. The spark was great, started up just fine, idled, re-started etc. I went in the house and went back out tonight to assembly the bike and tried for spark and nothing. There is absolutely no spark tonight a...

brilliant! that's exactly the kind of info I wanted, thanks guys. Do any years vibrate less than others? I had an AF with a 1989 engine and now have a steelie with a 1985 engine. I did not notice any difference in vibration and neither vibrated much in my opinion. Be careful of excessive vibration ...

CR500 Timing
I have never did anything with the timing on the CR500. Are they difficult to time once the stator is changed? If I replace the ingition with a 1996 CR250 one, how difficult is it to get the timing on? Are there any stickies on here about the timing process - I have not found one although my wife sa...
