Man thats unbelievable seeing the slevee and gasket jus sitting there. You'd a thought the gasket would of melted. Maybe the trans is salvagable? Sorry to see. All of that stuff has been in the dump since a few days after the fire. I snagged that liner though. The rings were still in it and the pis...

I use Klotz Techniplate most of the time. I bought a gallon of Klotz BeNol last year and have run it sometimes. It does smell good, sorta like the Blendzall I used to use back in the day. Now, combine that with race gas and you have a nice perfume for riding! Unfortunately, I have to take a shower a...

Damn. I guess the one on the right truly is a 500 pipe. The 250 I looked at didn't have the pronounced "S" and then I found this. Now I wonder about the one on the left. Apparently it is a later model modified pipe. https://bannedcr500riders.com/images/auto/c25edcfffd85286fbca5c1dd50716da9...

'85 pipes?

The modified pipe that came with the bike is on the left. Looks like a very modified stock pipe. I snagged the pipe on the right thinking it was a 500 stock pipe but now that I look at it, it appears to be a 250 pipe. Anybody else think so? Anyway, pinholes patched, sandblasted and painted with PJ1 ...

Color match?

1985 Whadda ya think? It's chev engine orange. Close enough? I had ordered $200 worth of original oem colorrite paint but, it burned up in the fire. The fire also burned the nomenclature plate so, I decided to just rattlecan it. https://bannedcr500riders.com/images/auto/59d0df996b5e17ca2c5abfe0fab9b...

Got it. Sum bitch :x Drilled at a slight angle to come up just a little short of the clip and then drilled under it. Used a pick to get it out after that. Said all the cuss words I know and maybe made some new ones up. Under the piston is says 43 on the left side and "W" on the right? http...

That's a good idea.
Is this an oem from back then?
I seem to remember dealing with this sometime in the past, maybe my ATC250R, I can't remember.

CR480

Finally took the top off my '82 CR480 to inspect. The bore is good at std. Ring end gap is waaaay out of spec, blowby on both sides of the pin. Piston looks good but will be replaced as a precaution anyway. Is this the stock piston anybody? How the hell do these clips come out? I mean there's no tan...

Since I've owned mine, I've heard a lot about the 500 cracking skirts over time. Mostly on this site.
Good thing you checked it.
Some of the guys will chime in but, I would think a forged piston would be good. That's what I always use for all my rebuilds.

Out blazin' trails again and had to have a break at the creek. Dominic had to make some steps across the creek and Clarence had to get a drink and cool his balls! :) Taught Dominic how to skip stones and he's getting pretty good. He's about ready to move up to a CRF70. He's already outgrown his mx b...

Bad day

Ever have one of those bad days when everything just goes wrong?
Here's the cap to mine.
A school bus and a fat guy on a scooter when I need to be somewhere.

Rode mine yesterday. I have had times when mine was hard to start until I do the routine. Turn fuel on, lean bike over till carb overflows, put it in first gear and rock back and forth with thumb on kill switch, prime kicker slowly a few times, find TDC, bring kicker to absolute top, jump slightly ...

Well, I'm getting around to get my '85 back together but the subframe is tweaked. Anybody tried to fix a bent subframe before? Looks like the left side top rail is bent in and up. The right side panel lines up perfectly. https://bannedcr500riders.com/images/auto/e7a40580b2029334fc4a1bab230469f3.jpg ...

OK, once again it's time for Brits starting video if anyone has it handy. Until then, picture a nasty grimey old school Harley rider kickstarting his hog. He throws himself in the air and jumps on the kicker. Brit seemed a little more cleancut from what I saw but the general idea is the same. Oh, be...
