Cool! Did you eat any pizza while you were there? They've got the best I've ever had. I went there in 96 to the IMTS and had a great time. There's also a steak house by the name of Eli's I think. In the basement of one of the buildings downtown. Had the feel of one of the old time mobster hang outs.

Crank Rebuild

Got a friend from work that started a side business doing cranks. Bulk of his work has been KTMs since there isn't a good aftermarket for those cranks right now. He uses mainly PROx on the Jap stuff but will do OEM if that is what you prefer but turn around would be a little longer waiting for parts...

The o.d. of the 500 forks are just slightly too large to fit into the crf triple clamps. One other option would be the 500 triple on the crf but I don't know if that would fit or not.

Mine was a short rod you need to go a c-hair higher. The reason to go low as possible is that you start hitting the angle on the top piece and you will have to grind the piss out of it. It is hard getting a nice square fit. I don't make suggestions without a reason. Indeed. Getting the Y to fit jus...

Cut the weld on the bottom of that left radiator mount and raise the top of the Y just over where that weld was. About 3/8-1/2" more looking at your pic. That will give you just enough room to get the top exhaust springs on, otherwise you'll have to carve out a good chunk of the right bottom fr...

in order for honda to heat treat every chassis they would also need a seperate facility to straighten every chassis afterwards. that would add time and money to the process. I'm guessing they use jigs to keep the frame from warping to shit. I'm like you in seeing all the little relief holes in the ...

Re: Heat Treating Specs?

The Y section was a 7XXX series on my 04 CRF250 that we couldn't find the actual match in the Bible of alloys, but you can look at an older spec like MIL-H-6088 and generally see what needs to be done. Solution treat at ~ 860-900F for ~ 40min for .090 thick and quenched in boiling water. This gets ...

My welder has been in the aluminum working / welding business for 24 years. He builds sprint cars mostly, but does many other things as well. He said that the only time aluminum needs to be heat treated is after the initial annealing. So in effect, the only time it would need to be heat treated for...

Can the Rekluse clutch be shifted under power or do you need to let up to shift? I personally let off when shifting just because I think it is easier on the tranny but, If you currently shift under power with a standard clutch and then installed a rekluse, you could still shift under power. Once th...

I don't know about the pro because I haven't installed one of those but, the only thing OEM left on the core is the basket and friction plates. The rest is all rekluse. If you are going to install a complete new clutch anyway that helps offset the cost of the rekluse.

I put the core exp in my daughters yz250. She absolutly loves it. I looked and they don't make the core for the 500, at least not yet. The advantage of the core is it is much more simple to install and adjust. Also, while the pro is wonderful, there are times when you want to use the clutch it isn't...

Question 1 - there is no way in hell the 500 or a 2001 CR250 air boot will fit in this frame. Is the correct air boot for this conversion a 1998 CR 250? Question 2 - larger tank question, which one (IMS Clarke or Acerbis), I guess which one is the easiest to modify? Question 3 - CDI location - woul...
