I have... I have a ghetto way of doing it, I drill a hole and use a sheet metal screw to grab the seal, then pull it out and clean up behind it well. Hmmm...interesting but definitely saves ALOT of work splitting the cases. I've done similar things on other bikes...just haven't had a 500 apart yet....

Which brand of bearings did you get? Looks like honda used nachi and toyo which are pretty good. Edit: Got one! Pretty broad statement so I'll narrow it down. :P Looking for a cr500 relatively close to seattle/portland. Not interested in rolling chassis or basket cases. Just looking for a good running solid bike. can be as old as '86ish as long as its in good shape. PM me or post up what you go...
