Depends on where you set the idle engagement point and how you set the clutch up. I am 90% done with installing my new z start pro now. I think it would be fantastic for hill climbs, the bike wouldn't stall out at an Inopportune moment and as long as you apply light throttle it will keep the bike en...

youre good man, i dont have those on my rads. I just have the brackets that hold them and then the rads themselves. I thought i popped a rad at trikefest this year because it started spraying coolant but it turned out to be a bad hose. anyhow, i have run it without any of those guards/fins on it and...

it was probably about 80 or so outside, not too hot but still warm. The trails were tight for the machines we were on, no speed to get air over the rads. I had been lugging it in 1st gear pretty hard around trees and both my rear tires caught a tree and killed the engine instantly. I freed the bike ...

Overheating item
Doing some woods riding on my 500. First real trip out for my 500r, and first real 2 stroke 500 machine experience. 40 minutes into the ride i got hung up on a tree and stalled the bike, at that point I heard it boiling the coolant and the overflow bottle was even steaming. I was running it hard in ...

APT SmartCarb selection
Looking at the smart carbs right now and trying to decide if i really need anything bigger than the 38mm cast carb. The 40mm is billet, double the price, and is the one recommended for the 500 class of machines. I realize not alot of people have these on their bikes yet, but after watching some of t...

Re: Jetting questions, pingy etc
I dropped the slide all the way down and it holds idle fine but dies occasionally.. What does this mean then? when i was messing with it sunday, i backed the screw out all the way to let the slide sit at its lowest point. It would idle but die frequently, i kept messing with the air screw and the s...

I just ordered a new set of Boyesens to replace these with. Of the three times I rode it yesterday the bike took off like it should have the first time I rode it, and then after playing with the air screw and slide stop the bike seemed to get pissed off at me and not want to take off from in 1st gea...

i have been all over those jetting threads by roosty and alisobob. as far as I can tell I have the idle circuit dialed in well enough, i guess im just trying to determine what would make the bike idle like crap. I can get it to stay running but it sits there and idles a little too high for me. I am ...

Ok I rode it more and after a good hard ride it will sit and ping/idle high like a big cam'd v8. Ping ping ping ping like it's not idling regularly. Is this bad reeds? I took the reed cage out and can see the slightest bit of light between the cage and petals. Will that cause irregular idle? Figured...

My only concern is that I have had to play w the air screw and adjus the slide stop a little each time to get the bike to run like I feel it should. The second and third time riding it the kept wanting to stall out really easy when engaging 1st gear and seemed to want ALOT of throttle to get out. Th...

Jetting questions, pingy etc
Just got the motor running for the first time after the head leaking coolant issues. Runs great starts first kick choke up. Set air screw per standard; raise idle and back the air screw out to determine where the highest idle is and adjust pilot jet accordingly. I have a 48 pilot in my 39pwk and the...

Installed the head and the bike doesn't leak at all. Runs like it fucking should. Need to figure out what I'm missing with not havin the squish band mod done to this head, other wise it runs and there's no god damned leaks. 2 weeks of stressing over why it won't run right and keeps shitting coolant ...

Seanmx57 did the decomp, Roosty had to do some welding on it to fix a hole from a decomp that was originally run through the top of the dome. Theres a post about the head further down in this subforum if you look from about 3 weeks ago. The motor ran without leaks before this head was installed, and...

Head and gasket have been reinstalled three times and it continues to pressurize the coolant system. I am almost certain it is leaking on top side of the gasket on the side opposite the decomp valve. I grease threads and torque in three step sequence to 20 ft lbs. using a Honda head gasket and every...

Started and ran after the first kick when I swapped to a new plug. Rode around the block and a coolant hose popped off pretty violently and the engine revved up simultaneously. So I ended up pulling the head and sure enough there was a leak. I reinstalled everything and will see how it does tomorrow...

went home and swapped out to a 45 pilot on my lunch break, that didnt change anything. I can get a good solid kick in and it will just fire over and run for about one second and shut right back off. so it wants to run but not for long. filled tank, petcock flows strong, tank lid is not clogged eithe...

Took me a minute to understand what you meant. I pulled the cover and did that, howevr I didn't measure before I loosened the pickup and it pulled it closer to the tab before I gapped it so I don't know how much clearance stock is. So I got it to where I could kick it and it's getting good spark now...

Was out kicking on it and the pwk starts dumping fuel on the ground. Didnt stop so I just shut the petcock and pushed it inside. So frustrated over this bike right now. That a sticking float valve or a bad petcock? I started w a 45 pilot and after starting it idled super high. It has run fine after ...

new to me cr500 engine, just installed in my bike. It is a PITA to start. Fires right up when pull started. Last night i was able to kick it over but it took me an hour of cursing and kicking. I tried rocking it in gear like i have seen done online and it fired right up after that. I went home to me...
