I just finished my 97 CR500AF myself. I agree that the chassis was not Hondas greatest achievement however this is the CHEAPEST and EASIEST AF conversion. Took me longer to sell my 250 motor and buy a 500 motor. I found me a good local machine shop and the total conversion cost me about $150. Here i...

Re: Ride report
Sposed to be a ride report about it on here today. Looking forward to it. Man that turned out nice & the second cooling routing looks loads better. Make's me envious of the ease of the gen1 builds. Also with your signature on KXRIDERS, I really expected to see a big block Chevelle in the garage...

You should get a new float valve for the carb if it is constantly leaking through the overflow and your float height is set correctly. The vibrations kill them quickly on a 500. I had the same problem. You need a new choke too if it doesn't click when you pull it up. Have you tried cleaning it yet?...

Here is the updated route of my radiator hoses...... I figure it looks better and I can now visually see with the tank installed that they are not being pinched. I don't think I have cooling issues but i won't know till I ride the thing. I accomplished this with a series of spare hoses I had lying a...

Jetting Sux!!
I have never been a genius when it comes to jetting.....However my bikes always ran decent enough in the different conditions that I rode that jetting was never really a problem for me. 1 size up or down here or there always got things running good. For my first CR500 though I am not so sure. On the...

Reeds?
Thinking about upgrading my reeds.....any thoughts out there Hoons? I've been seeing boyesen replacement reeds for like $40 and I've been seeing the whole Boyesen reed valve assembly for like $140. I've also heard that one way to test reeds is to pull the assembly out and fill it with water.....good...

Thanks Bob........I actually rerouted my previous hose setup....I'll post pics later.....I filled the cooling system with 50/50 distilled water and white vinegar to clean out any scale that might be in the system. I then ran the bike for 10 min and kept an eye on the radiator temp with a fluke infar...

OK.....I got good news and I got bad news..... First the Good.......Bike is done!! Once I picked the bike up from the Fab shop it took me about half a day to get her all together. Grimey old fabricator charged me $150 bucks and made me a head stay, swingarm spacers, welded on some motor mounts and m...

who says 5oo 2t's are not for technical riding?!
Ignore the brand on this dudes radiator shrouds and appriciate the terrain that he's ridding it through.....I liked it. This is for everyone who says "500 2 strokes are worthless, old shit that ain't for technical stuff"!!

I may be mistaken, and probably am, but I think the late Al Baker rode XR's in the Baja races. Of course, that was a very long time ago and the TT500, CCM and XR's were a novelty. Al Baker, Dan Ashcraft, Bruce Ogilvie, Chuck Miller to name a few....Honda's last victory in Baja was in 87.....Team Gr...

What are you using the bike for I will be trail riding with it.......Don't care too much about racing at top speed across the desert. I don't want it to be a dog either.... I have a 91 which is the close ratio as well and it does good in the dezert with the 14/48 gearing I run. I would run what you...
