Ok, If the carb and boot checks out ok, you might want to toss in some crank seals.

Sounds like a classic air leak.
I'd start with a thorough inspection of the carb and the carb boot.
From there I would do leak down test.
When is the last time the engine was rebuilt?

These parts were done as experiments and not all are perfect but you can see the potential...
The big thing is the time... A brake caliper takes about 4-5 minutes to do if it's really nasty..

Another salvage yard in town has a big Sonic cleaner.
He is coming over tomorrow or Friday to compare results.. I'll keep you posted.

I've never tried the dry ice blaster but I can say that after using my Vapor Blaster for a few days I'm selling my soda blaster..... Cheap!
The one thing you have to watch is that it is imperative to fully rinse your part when done....
