welding
Seems like you have already gone round with this build and it will take some time to learn to weld aluminum for the results your looking for. The rads are even harder to weld do to the thiness of the material. I would recommend having someone who has built these bikes help you finish it, the best we...

I am preheating my welds on the downtube to the billet y i use, the material is thicker with both pieces. aluminum can look like it is welded and not have proper penetration, if in doubt pre-heat. a trick i learned is to turn just your acetylene on, blacken the aluminum with it. now fire up your mix...

07 build
the 07 is a gen 4 frame, the cr500 motor will fit in there with ease. depending on where you clock the motor you may need to heat and push the fuel tank in a little, mainly to keep the tank spigot from hitting the spark plug.
Are you replacing the frame rails or using a cp500 kit ?

Re: Air box question
Would a CRF-X air box fit into a CRF-R subframe? In other words, are the subframes for a CRF-X and a CRF-R different so you couldn't put an X air box in a R subframe? The 2004-05 crf-r and 2004-09 crf-x model subframes are the same frame with different mounts for the plastics, airbox and radiator ca...

Looks the same to me, just relocated. What do you do to the markings and the original mounts on the back of the Y, grind them off? Yep. Along with new cradle/mounts welded back in. That is exactly what i did, only i didn't cut the openings open on the sides where the cradle goes into the y.There is...

the crf450 frame is to long in the engine bay front to back, you will probably have an issue with the exhaust header reaching the motor with out hitting the frame. Im currently working on a 2008 crf250 frame with the 1997 cr250 motor, to get the motor positioned right a lot of material must be cut f...

I have a couple questions, more about product than process  the seat, is it tacky feeling? kinda like a gripper? hows the fit? does it leave a gap anywhere more than a stock one? the tank, does it feel huge wide or is that width above where your legs would hold? I'm piecing mine together right...

JB, currently the headstay block was a one off. the headstays i have had, need to have more made up as im down to my last one. I do not sell my parts, i have sold a couple headstays and frame rails but really there's people out there who would buy them then copy them for their own profit. besides th...

2008 crf250/cr250 Conversion
Finally started this project a weekend ago, This is a challenging build as the cr250 motor doesn't fit in there like a cr500 motor, the clutch case seems to be farther back on the engine block causing interference to the loweer right frame rail and the frame casting. I approached the problem by sett...

very cool build, Roland Sands built one of these, ever since seeing that bike I have thought about doing one. I would take it to the next level of course, just add a few more things basically, like rearward foot controls, set up a stock front end that would be lighter, an aluminum gas tank that woul...

MxDogger Gen 5 conversion Built for Mudguts
Here is a build i started at least a 1 1/2 years ago for Mudguts who lives in Australia. It started out as just a frame conversion then it was relized i needed it to be a roller to figure motor placement. As mudguts purchased parts over this time period i did what i could until the bike was complete...

mel it will be ok to start cutting the y out, you will need to do this first so the motor can be installed to determine the correct position in the frame. I took a crf250 rolling chassie flipped it upsidedown like a bicycle, cut the y out, flipped it back on its wheels, set the motor in and clocked ...

Looks really nice man, good job on the small stuff. I havent had time to do all the research to make the newer 06-09 crf250 subframe to work. I would recommend anyone doing a crf250 conversion use the 04-05 crf250 subframe and parts, also the 04-09 crf250 X SUBFRAME will work as it is the same as th...
